Re: afr 195 heads

Best to stick with the straight plugs..... It's going to be a PITA in that small of an engine compartment no matter what you do.

IMHO afr's are overpriced. For less money, I could get some good TFS heads, AND get stage 3 porting done. Very good heads, but they just cost way too much. Brodix IK 200 heads are only $1,100..... All just an idea. I have ran the eliminators before on a destroked 400. It made great power, but it was a $7,500 engine.

Just noticed your sig..... A 383 under that, what are your cam specs? Only "streetable" for so you have a title? Main use of the vehicle? Forged, boosted and gutted makes it sound like a track car, that's the reason for the questions. 195cc may not be enough if you have a stiff cam, since this aint street driven.

Re: afr 195 heads

If you run L98 angle plug AFR's with L98 style headers you will have great clearance. My hooker longtubes easily cleared the plugs. Hardest one was #1 but it wasnt bad, especially if you make a spark plug tool or have a proper length socket. Trim 1/4" off a spark plug socket and it would fit easily

AFR's are only 1450 or so shipped to your door, atleast when i bought them last spring/late winter time. Thats money well spent. MOst other heads are 1200-1300 now, so why not spend 150 more for a much better quality head?
Trick flows with porting will run you over 2000 and still wont be much better than out the box AFR's. Total Engine Airflow sells ported TFS's and they are in the 2000 range complete and only flow as much as AFR's base head. Comp AFR's for same 2000 will kill the TFS

But with a turbo setup it kinda doesnt matter. There are guys in the 9' with stock L98 style iron heads...

Re: afr 195 heads

Ported TFS heads cost about 1,100 or 1,200. My vortecs costed $75 by a friend at the shop. It helps to have a machinist for a friend. The heads I run right now Are easily flowing over 300 cfm.

I guess it depends on resources to.... I wasn't thinking of that.

Re: afr 195 heads

where are you getting TFS heads ported for that price?? TFS brand new unported are over 1300 bucks now!! Thats a pair assembled...not bare. And to reach 300 cfm on these heads is pretty tricky with a 195-200 cfm finished port size

You would probably wind up with a 210cc port after the porting.

my car lives a dual life it sees limited track use most of its life is on a track that dont open till after 1 am. i have a lot of reasearch into these heads and they sound perfct for what i want and wit a port job i can get around 300 cfm out of them ,and yes my headers are a pain in the *** there flipped s/10 conversion headers but the hard side is the pass as thats d/p side
