good idea or no?
i am looking at swapping my entire TPI setup for this:
http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/crat...JetEngine.aspx
but it comes with iron heads and low ish compression.
would these heads be ok? or would it raise compression too much
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
or is this a bad idea altogether?
thats all
thanks
oh, the heads are listed as vortec heads on jegs, but i figured you would like summits more complete info so i listed their website.
same price so...

Re: good idea or no?
The heads on the engine are 64cc, the summit heads are 62cc. They would probably raise your compression about .2 to .3. Just for the sake of raising compression it wouldnt be worth it.
I believe the fast burn heads do flow a little better than the iron vortecs, but if you're going from a 230HP TPI to a 350HP/400TQ ram jet that would probably be more than enough to put a simle on your face just the way it is.

Re: good idea or no?
i wouldnt be doing the head swap simply for the compression bump, although that would be a bonus.
i am considering it for the lighter weight, compression, possible power bump ect.
also, the engine that would come out has more than the 230hp.
i would guess around 275-300rwhp isnt unreasonable.
i have no idea whats in it though, so i cant say for sure.

What all have you done to that TPI? If its pushing 300 to the rear wheels, then its making more at the crank than that ram jet.

I have no idea what is in the motor. Being that this is the most powerful car I've driven I cantt say how much power it has. I'd guess mid six second 0-60 though

Re: good idea or no?
If there hasnt been a head/cam swap then i can almost promise you that youre nowhere near those kind of HP numbers. With bolt-on's like full exhaust, cold air intake, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, ignition mods, etc you would probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of 260-275 HP at the crank.
The TPI can be confusing because it makes so much torque in the lower RPM band, but power takes a sharp fall about 4500-5000 RPM. It pulls like a mother off the line but cant keep it up very long.
If you decide on that motor, I wouldnt go buying any extra heads just yet.

A better choice than the Ram Jet: http://www.sdpc2000.com/product/SD36...ripEngine.aspx
62cc aluminum heads represents an effective compression loss vs. 64cc iron heads. More heat loss. Might make up for it with better flow, but you'd better have done a lot to the TPI to realize it.
