Re: where to get a custom chip??

Is your car modified and if so, what kind of mods do you have?
To get a custom chip that is not a waste of time, you need to find somebody that does wide band tuning. The car needs to be tuned under real driving conditions in order for the correct fueling, spark, etc. to be set. Try to find a performance shop that does wide band tuning on LT1s and LS1s, they should be able to do OBD1 tuning as well.
Alternatively, you may try to get the equipment and learn how to tune it yourself. There are plenty of people here that can help you when you run into problems.
Anything short of that, such as mail order chips and such, are a waste of money and time. Dyno tuning is not the best option either, because the vehicle is not tested under load.

If your going to upgrade to 22 lb Bosch injectors and install an AFPR try this site www.tpichips.com and determine which chip suites your needs.

Re: where to get a custom chip??

my opinion, having been down this exact same road, is that if you haven't made any radical mods to your car, then a custom chip isn't worth the headache. if you're still able to run your stock-sized injectors, then i think you're okay with the stock or aftermarket chip (folks: just my opinion).

I had headers and catback exhaust on my car, and I think I only needed to go to a custom chip because of the change to 30# injectors. looking at the injector pulse-widths, now, hindsight, i'm not to sure if i really needed to go that size.

I do have a mild cam in the engine and also intake airflow improvements, but I suspect I probably could've gotten by with the off-the-shelf aftermarket chip i already had if i'd have kept the stock-sized injectors.

my own experience with mail-ordered custom-burned chips wasn't too positive, and this forced me to learn how to program and burn my own chips using knowledge from the DYI-PROM forum.
