heads and cam combo

Very similar to the what cam question.I have a GM crate engine with the following #,s block 1024388c heads are#10110810.has cracked head. The block is being cleaned up new bearings newrings etc.what is a good replacement set of heads and a cam for this setup.I currently have $800 for cam and heads if possible. Then I will purchase a carb and intake any suggestions would be helpful. This is my first engine build

$800 isn't going to buy you much. I was going to suggest a Vortec head kit from sdparts.com, but although a good deal, you're looking at about $1000-$1100 for heads, intake, gaskets, bolts, and rockers.

This engine has dished pistons, right? You might want to find a pair of 416, 601, or 081 305 heads. Have them cleaned up, put in a nice Comp or whatever cam in the 260 adv duration range, with new valve springs. You could probably do that for $800.

Re: heads and cam combo

You can find 305 vortec heads for cheap 58cc chambers will bump your compression and they flow well. I put a set of comp 918 springs on mine it ups the max safe lift for your cam to .550 and they reduce oil temp a little. you need to shim the heads to get the correct install height i think mine needed an added .030 to be correct on all springs.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...let-305-a.html

your gonna have to get a vortec carb manifold but they can be found used for 50bux or new for 150 on ebay.

I used a tpi cam was in the .520 lift area and 224dur the lift was good but i would get something with a little more durration if i had the chance to do the build again.

It was a nice setup i beat a buddys firebird that had almost the same setup but he had 350 vortec heads and a holly carb same headers intake and close to the same cam.

hope this helps

Then those aren't the full dished pistons, and 64cc heads will be fine.
