Alternator sounds like a supercharger and im at 18 volts!!!

Ok so the title says it all. My volts are at 18v and my alternator sounds supercharged. Which is pretty neat i suppose.

BUT. I was driving and turned my headlights on and what do you know they don't work anymore. So i guess this means they blew out cause of the 18volts. Well see. Are the Headlights fused???

WHAT DO I DO? So im guessing the alternator is pissed off or something. Its basically a braned new remanufactured one though. I read something online that said something about a voltage regulator or something that controls the volts... maybe that went bad.

If anyone has any insight on what my problem may be please respond soon. I wanna get to the track this weekend but i don't have headlights! THANKS.

Time to replace the alternator, the voltage regulator is bad and is internal. The headlights sould be fused with a fuseable link at the starter.

Headlights are pretty tough, other lights should blow first. Take the alt. back and have it tested on their machine. Could be a bad connection somewhere but that would be a rare situation.
