the dreaded blue
my 89 formula got a new motor, 305 long block. at first was a surprisingly powerful 305. I went through all the proper break in steps(not my first one) 12k later, with timing perfect, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor(been chasing) engine misses, runs very rich at idle, and is now blowing blue while idling after warm up. none on cold starts, or warm starts, only after warming up and first start after oil change. also after oil change i hear and excessive amount of rocker rattle. I never went back and re-adjusted the valves, and thats the only symptom that makes sense. I live in CA, so needless to say, this is causing a problem with smog test. can and have gotten around it before, but would like to just fix it.

Re: the dreaded blue
Pull the valve covers and take a look. Sounds like a rocker went out of adjustment or broke a pushrod or something. Take of the valve covers and it should be VERY obvious what it wrong. Wiggle everything and look for the weird one.
If nothing seems obvious, start it up and watch the rockers (quickly now, lest you drown in oil...)

Re: the dreaded blue
well, pulled the covers off, found three rockers over-tightened, and found 11 scarred pushrods, after replacing all pushrods, and adjusting the valves over and over again, problem solved. hydraulic lifters, no adjustment necessary? not true.
