Re: Searching for the best 383 tpi build

I am in the same boat. Just popped the head gaskets on my stock head 92 camaro 350 so figured why not build one.

I am really considering a 383 too. IMO if you are keeping the stock TPI unit, I really think that may be a choke point to running 10's on an NA motor.

What I have done so far is a 58mm TB, matched siamese ported SLP runners to plenum and TPIS manifold. I would like to match these to an AFR 180cc head and possibly a LPE cam.

I believe it will generate great deals of torque down low but will run out of steam by 5500rpm. Maybe a high 11sec car? dunno. Keeping an NA car, gears are your friend. Match them to be in your sweet spot by the 1/4 mile.

Keeping everything stock on a 383, ive seen an aggregious amount of torque being made at ~2000rpm (that has got to be fun!) but slowing down a couple of thousand rpm later.

If you want to build solid 10sec, my opinion is to use a GT35r turbo and the ability for the ECU to read boost. Ive seen some great examples from 3rd gen owners out there and with the push from the import scene, the technology is abundant.

Im keeping mine NA but im knowing the limitation to my choice.

Re: Searching for the best 383 tpi build

yeah i know a tpi wont get me to the 10's but i want to build my motor to where the only thing that is limiting me is the intake. i want my tpi to get as close as possible tho. im going to put some money in the block so someday when i go to a power adder i wouldnt have to touch the block. i am not sure about what size injectors 30lbs 32lbs? or heads 195 or 210. i have friends that run bigger heads than 195 but they arnt afr.

I would probably run the 195cc AFR's. I'm planning my 383 TPI build as well. Could anybody out there who has done one post up your modifications and your results? What does yours run in the 1/4 Viprklr

No way.
I have a serious 383 w/HSR (approx 500 )Hp in my Vette and I am only just hitting the 11's.Just installed 3.73's and 3K stall so should go quicker but not 10's without the bottle
Typical street Vettes with 400RWHP 383 engines run in the low 12's NA and mid 11's on the NOS
Check this out to see what it takes to make 500Hp on a 383 with EFI

Put some numbers in this calculator ( bottom of page ) and see how much Hp you will need to run 10's
