Pulley swap possibilities?

Is it possible to put the pulleys from a serp setup on the accessories of a v-belt setup?

Re: Pulley swap possibilities?

Crank/smog will bolt on

WP will bolt on, but be aware serp WPs are reverse rotation. V belts and std rotation

Alt/PS can be changed with a puller

AC requires a new clutch unit. Rent the puller tool

That being said, youll have no mount for the tensioner and the belt length will be hard to determine unless you got all the brackets and no indiv accessories

I have no need for the smog or AC pulley's. I figured the water pump would need to be changed. I'll just borrow the puller from a friend.

Does anyone know if the tensioner can be seperated from the giant serp bracket, and can anyone provide me a good picture of it and how it mounts and/or moves. I don't want to use the giant ugly brackets for the complete serp setup. I plan on making my own serp setup using my v-belt accessories. It will be way cheaper and probably just as good looking as the march setup when I'm done. Ok, maybe not as good as the fancy-pay-insane-$$ march pulley setups, but it will look good. If the tensioner won't work, I can always go without it. Not a big deal...

Re: Pulley swap possibilities?

Its held on by a single shoulder bolt. The base has a small nipple that fits into a recess in the bracket to put tension on the spring. A flat plate with a nut on the back and a hole drilled for the nipple is all you need

I reused the stock tensioner here and thats how I mounted it

Re: Pulley swap possibilities?

Do you know if the crank pulley meant to work with a short water pump will be usable with a serpentine belt setup? I know the short water pump was only from on cars up to 68 and on trucks up to 72, but is there a stock GM pulley that will work?
