1/4 mile guesstimate?

Im rebuilding the 305 that came in my 85 IROC. im putting in a summit cam (214/220*@.05 , .442/.460 lift) a set of pocket ported and gasket matched l30 305 vortec heads (520 casting (221/168cfm stock flow), which is the good flowing head, just like the 069(the other 305 vortec head)) i had laying around, 1.5 stock rocker arms, procomp aluminum dual plane intake (a knock off of the edelbrock performer i believe?), keb hyper pistons flat top 4 valve releifs and coated skirts, powdered metal rods, stock bottom end... and an edelbrock 500cfm carb (soon to be repalced with a holley 650 dp or something around that size)
and its all going in front of a t5 w/c (if i can frekin find one) or a t56 if i can get a good deal...a nice aftermarket clutch (sugestions would be nice, i was thinking a spec stage 2 or 3), the stock lightweight L69 flywheel...
the suspension is stock, new springs front and back, kyb gr2 shocks/struts, and soon a spohn crossmember with the fancy torque arm, spohn rear control arms (with del-sphere bushings), rear lca re-locators for that extra traction, and sub fram connectors...
and nitto nt555r 255/50r16 tires at the back
considering a good driver, what do you think it will do?
im hoping for low 14s...
tell me what you think....
thank you

oh i forgot the exhaust, im at a loss with that, id like to get a dual cat y-pipe from jegs, with the matching catback system with a good set of shorty headers...

Low 14s should be realistic if you can launch it properly with the manual trans - it is a fine line between a good launch, a cooked clutch, and fried tyres.

Maybe consider a slightly bigger cam if you haven't bought that one already. Something like the Comp 218/224 cam should make a few more hp, and still retain a decent idle and vacuum.

Re: 1/4 mile guesstimate?

i originally wanted a xfi grind, but im on a limited timeline and budget... i bought the cam because i heard good things about it... i do alot of runs on backstreets and stuff, but never to an actual light, so its just the launch id have to really work on i guess...
ive never actually been to the track so if i get high 14s low 15s at first it would make me happy, then ill just work up the skill and stuff...
you think i could get by with a world class t5? or i should just look for a t56 from the get-go?
also my car has had a bit of lightening done to it, no carpet, all the smog stuff taken out, no ac, no spare tire(it didnt come with one when i bought the car...), and many of the interior plastics are gone, not that it would make much of a difference but i figured id put that in as well...
thanks

Re: 1/4 mile guesstimate?

If the T5 has had a good life then it might be ok, but I wouldn't be pushing it too hard. I have seen T5s come apart behind engines with less than 300hp if they are abused.

It is a catch-22 situation - traction is your friend for the drags, but traction is the enemy of your gearbox....

Re: 1/4 mile guesstimate?

well if i was to get the w/c t5 id rebuild it and put the steel retainer plate to help keep it together...
we will see how it turns out, im mainly asking because i have a buddy at work who drives a 93 3000gt, th base model (fwd, non turbo), not the vr4... if it was the vr4 i wouldnt even ask...
but id like to race him and hopefully win...

Re: 1/4 mile guesstimate?

Would be a good race, you should take him though, the 3000GT is heavier.
