NEED HELP

Hey everyone,
I am really confused, i just rebuilt my motor, and now it wont start, new battery, new starter, new everything. I want to stop stressing so much, i need this car out of the garage. Now the symptoms.. it sounds like the battery is dead, even though its fine..put the key in..just turns once...then click click click. The battery is mounted in the trunk of the vehicle, but it worked before all this changed. The starter is mounted to a switch, so its not the ignition. I thought maybe the neutral safety switch, but no...cant be..otherwise the starter wouldnt even make a sound. The fuel pump primes, and the ignition timing is PERFECT. Theres a few plugs unplugged, like the coolant sensor. Next to the distrubuter, theres alittle black box with no hose attached to it..not really sure what that is. And a few other sensors that are unplugged, but for the life of me..cant figure out what is wrong. The sensors are to the front of the pulleys just dangling, i know one goes to the coolant sensor, thats fine. But could those prevent the car from starting?

All help is good help, i really appreciate it, thank you for going out of ur way for my stupidity, i just really am stressed out cause of this.

Thanks,
Adam

Hello pbfreak9999!!

Have you rechecked your starter connections? You said your battery is remote mounted in the trunk, did you check to see if the long cables are not grounding out?

I'm no expert, however, if it spins then clicks, and the battery is good......I'd check to see why it's not getting full voltage at the starter, cables are a good first step!!!

Also, it doesn't hurt to check your grounds!!

Re: NEED HELP

thank you for such a quick response. Well i thought that too, and tomorrow morning, i will def check to make sure its not grounding itself..or my grounds are good to begin with. The only one im thinking, is a ground broke on one of the heads, i spliced it in with another ground on the head..not sure if that should make it difference..knowing my luck it would haha. Right now i have a ground from the engine block, to the starter, from the start to the frame. The ground from the battery to the frame. and the ground from the head to a metal bracket on the metal body. Oviously ill check if the connections are fresh and good..but do you sugguest anything else?

Re: NEED HELP

I agree with 87IROC-DAN61 Make sure all your connections are really good, new, good quality conectors, good quality, heavy wires. Make sure all your grounds are free from grease and dirt. Everything needs to be well tight too. I'd love to see your ride, we're just about 30 miles apart.

Re: NEED HELP

something that just hung me up recently on my 305 sounds very similiar to this, my motor would turn over for a second, and then the starter solenoid would click. Im not 100% sure why, but after having the battery and alternator tested, i pulled the starter, it tested just fine, but i decided to replace it, once replaced everything worked just fine. I know there are a few very similiar questions on here which point to the problem being related to the "choke" light that comes on as well, something about an electrical problem and replacing an inexpensive relay or something.

Re: NEED HELP

does the motor turn over freely when you manually bar it over from the crank pulley

yes it turns over easily with a bar, the starter is new(but then again they have sold me broken starters before). I can check the relays, maybe i can try jump starting the starter straight at starter, to see maybe if my battery wire is bad(cant imagine it being that since its all fresh wire).

btw david, i see your in miami, i live right by county line race way on pines blvd and us 27(kinda by the walmart). Where are you
