moving to Cali from Louisiana

I tried searching for this, but could really find anything truly helpful. I have a 1992 RS, it's otherwise stock except that I have removed the vale system for the smog pump and crimped the air lines on the manifolds. Also the air tube from the cat is broken off but still there. Are their any options that I have to avoid replacing these parts, like claiming the engine came from a 1LE car, or am I stuck getting these parts? We have to visual inspection down here, so it was no issue doing this here. Thanks for the help. I wasn't sure where to post this.

Re: moving to Cali from Louisiana

1) You're going to have to replace those parts, or at least make them appear non-molested and then hope you can pass the sniffer test which I doubt you would be able to do.

2) 1LE has nothing to do with the engine. It is simply a brake/suspension package with no affect on emissions. Secondly, simply claiming it is a 1LE is irrelevant without an SPID to back it up.

3) Since the car wasn't originally sold in CA, you're probably going to have to pay an "import" fee (IIRC it is $300).

4) Lastly, simply disabling the emissions equipment doesn't really do anything for the car unless you actually remove it. The weight savings is where the benefit comes it at. Pinching a few lines here and there and leaving the stuff in place didn't net you any real gains. Just wasted your time.

Re: moving to Cali from Louisiana

Welcome to sunny California! Worst PITA smog regs in the nation. You'll have to replace all that stuff since they not only do the sniff test, but visual on all the smog stuff, and even pressure test the fuel tank and cap now. If you need them, I have a very clean set of air tubes I'll sell you for cheap when you get here or whenever, and some other smog stuff, Air valve, tubes, etc. IDK if you need Cali chip, or if yours is OK? Have fun, At least there are lots of JYs out here

And being it is new to California you get to spend a few hours at DMV and have a inspector verify your mileage and then look under your hood. Went through that with my windstar I bought in washington this year.

Enjoy!
