Daily driver not starting!
I apologize for rambling, I'm trying to be as thorough as possible in my discription. I have searched and found nothing with my exact symptoms. I have tried some of the things I found in other posts. First the specs; I have a 1991 firebird with the 305 TBI, all stock/original that I drive every day. The car typically performs well, no previous trouble starting it, always fires on the first try though the engine is tired, at 109,xxx on the odometer. This week I went out to start it and it fired up and idled very rough, then cut out, first time its ever done so, when I tried to restart it it would pop as if trying to fire but wouldn't start. My fuel pump is sending fuel, and my injectors are squarting. I replaced the cap and rotor and checked for spark and I have spark. I tried the coolant temp sensor by disconnecting it so it would run the defualt fuel air mixture and it didn't make a difference. My thinking is the timing chain streched or wore the teeth down on the gears, it does not backfire though, and never has, if it was the chain it gave no typical warning signs. I checked for trouble codes with the paper clip trick, and when I did the fan did not switch on like its supposed to, also it stored no codes, just did the "1 pause 2 flashes". Is there anything I could be missing that would cause this besides the timing chain? Like I said, I have fuel and spark. The spark plugs are on the older end, but not so bad that they should be causing an issue, just had nowhere to change them over winter. I keep up with maintainance best I can, always regular oil changes and tune ups, etc.
