Sealant needed for intake gaskets?
Hi,
Im using Mr Gasket Ultra-seal gaskets for the intake manifold. It already has silicone beading on both sides of the gasket, and they say sealant is not needed? The end walls use the black rubber type. Am I good to go without any sealant? All the threads Ive read on this use sealant.

you don't use sealant on the gasket itself but those black rubbers for the end walls get thrown away and you use a nice sized bead of silicon on each of the end walls and onto the edge of the gasket. The rubber pieces tend to squeeze and or blow out .

If your heads are scratched or pitted around the coolajnt ports, lay a bead of rtv aroudn those, smear them out to a thin layer and then continue your bead over the china walls, making it 1 long continuous bead. Don't flatten the bead on the china walls. then lay the gaskets on and make sure they "dig" into the rtv right in the corner between head and china wall. then lay a thin bead up on the gasket and the end of the china wall so that there's a good sealing bead there. Then place the manifold on. I have never ever had a manifold leak doing it that way.

Thanks for the replies. Im definitely gonna use the rtv on the end walls, the black rubbers look like they would fail very quickly.
