Car dies when switching gears?...
Often times my car dies when switching from Reverse to Drive, occasionally it also dies from Neutral to drive.
It only happens when I've been driving the car for a bit, come to a stop, and switch gears.
EXAMPLE: come up to a light and switch to Neutral from Drive so I don't have to hold the brake down for the super long red light. When I switch back to Drive, it dies.
EXAPLE 2: 3 point U Turn on residential street - it dies when switching from Reverse to Drive.
My question is this: where should I start first in the process of elimination?, If it's vacuum hoses, which areas should I be checking?...
Thanks in advance!
New info: it also shudders/bogs down *Occasionally* when switching from Drive to Reverse.

Tranny fluid looks/smells fine. However someone did mention along the way that a sound my car was making sounds like the torque converter going out..

Do you have any local transmission shops that do free diagnostics and estimates?
Our local AAMCO used to do free inspections and estimates, but I think they recently started charging.
If the converter is going bad, you may want to get it taken care of pretty quick. I've heard of people having pieces break off in theirs causing the rest of the tranny to get messed up. I always thought the filter would catch anything like that.
