Removing/Deleting EGR good idea?

Car: '86 IROC-Z & '13 2SS/RS
Engine: LB9 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.23
Removing/Deleting EGR good idea?
After finally getting my IROC to run more than 45 minutes by replacing almost every possible thing under the hood, turns out it was the fuel pump.
Days later, it's cutting out again and throwing an EGR code. (also have a new computer)
It cuts off while sitting at a light, or even sometimes while driving down the road. No problems starting right back up, just embarrassing and a PITA.
Come to find out, the brand new EGR valve that I just put on, is malfunctioning. The garage that did it is no longer in business....SURPRISE!....and I remember him saying he had to mod it make it fit. New garage says that I should go with AC Delco OEM, that the problem is probably aftermarket crap. Regardless if it is the wrong one or defective...I cannot find OEM to save my life!!!
Is it feasible to just remove the darn thing and delete it from the computer?
If so....how do I go about that...

just remove it, put a blockoff plate on and cap your vac hose and your done.
EDIT:
no, this isnt "legal" you usually get the code from the electrical sensor.
That can also be unplugged if you dont want to deal with the code all the time.

Unless they actually do a close look during inspections, in which case you should get another EGR. It's not a difficult install, I did it myself with one I bought from O'Reilly autoparts. It was a BWD. However, you should keep in mind that it may not be the EGR as the solenoid is fairly notorious for going bad. It could also be the sensor, but those don't go bad often. I actually broke mine but it still functions correctly. It sounds fishy to me that they had to modify the EGR that they used in your car. I'm not positive they got the right part/knew what they were doing.
The blockoff plate is the easy solution, but I believe it's not technically legal in places where they do visual inspections. That, and I like to fix things to how they were in factory. Personal preference.

I 2nd everything else thats been said, i just thought id throw this out there: Check local junkyards for an egr. Find the one that looks to be in the best shape and take it, clean it up, spray some carb cleaner threw it and install it. Im not sure how you look at junkyard parts, but i figured it was at least worth mentioning.

The code comes from the electrical vac switch thats under your coil or the temp sender on the egr. Just unplug those and cap the vac line coming from that and going to your egr.
Or fix it properly.

With a chip burner you can turn off the diagnostic checks for the EGR.
Your new valve could be leaking into your intake manifold, so I would look into sealing that up well. The exhaust gas can get extremely hot, so it has to be a very good sealing job.

Thanks guys. I don't have inspections in my state, so I am in the clear there...
I am also thinking that the garage put the wrong one on, I came up with two different part numbers, and I think he picked the wrong one. Without having the original, I can't get the numbers off it.
Off to modding I guess....

Before you go and take this off keep a few things in mind. This is not just an emissions device, its also for driveability. It does not effect performance because it does not operate under WOT. Removing it will not make your car any faster, unless before removing it, it was continously belching exhaust gasses into the intake.
On hot days, the EGR engages to reduce cylinder temperature. I know at first thought, it makes you think it would increase temperatures. But by filling up the cylinder with burned gas, you effectivly lower the C.I.D of the engine because there is less unburned air/fuel mixture going into each cylinder. This large amount of "dead space" in each cylinder also improves mileage. I have heard that it also is used to control detonation but I don't know much on this one.
It can be a pain in the butt because it is 1 more system to have to mess with, but what are you hoping to gain by removing it? Just some food for thought.
