How many miles can you go on a full tank?

I'm not looking for better gas mileage with this question. Rather, my gauge is acting up showing mostly full. I've driven 120 miles on this tank - @ speed limit in traffic, spirited when not. Today, when not floating to the full mark while going around a curve, it was about 3/4 on the gauge.

I'd love to run down the tank i filled up 120 miles ago but I don't want to run out of gas and this is the first summer - of five - I've actually been driving the car. So, what is the average amount of miles I can expect to drive before the tank is empty?

Depends on too many factors, to be honest.
your rear axle, driving style, outside temperature, engine type...
With my 305 TPI:
- On the Autobahn I get approximately up to 315 miles out of one tank filling, driving mostly constantly at about 80 mph, some overtaking and a couple of speed bursts.
- During every-day-driving I get about 240-280 miles out of one filling.

Don't rely on your gas gauge. That needle doesn't even come down to the rightmost line on the gauge until I've gone 59 miles, then it moves down constantly until half and then it quickly goes down to reserve.

im getting 20 in town and 25 on the freeway.the tank holds 16 gallons of fuel and usually I can get 350-380 miles from one load of fuel.this is with my 86 z with a 305TPI and automatic

So, I've been able to determine that the gage does work (it showed empty today) but it still waivers a bit. I had set the trip meter before the original post and since it showed empty today - 190 miles later - I filled it. It took a little over 13 gallons. For the future, I'll just plan on filling it every 200 miles. Thanks for the replies.
