Fun day at the junkyard with $17

Hey all got a great pull today at the junkyard!! I originally went to grab some bolts for my air dam thats on the way from Hawks. I grabbed my 10mm bolts off the donor car, and ive been wanting to buy a AC delete box for my upcoming header swap, but i wanted to check junkyards first and since i was there i said screw it i wonder if it has a Factory non ac box.......

The car ended up having it!!!! I ended up paying $15.99+tax, out the door $17.42! I got lucky and the heater box used 10mm bolts!!!! Getting ready to clean her down, and spray her with a layer of some rattle can paint. Quick question for anyone, does the AC box unbolt the same way as this box? Or will uninstalling it be different then what i did today pulling this one off? Any advice or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your ac box should unbolt the same. If I recall last summer when I swapped mine over, one of the bolts came in from the outside instead of the inside or vise-versa. They are still all in the same location.
I'm in the same boat as you, got mine in the junk yard for $15 or $20. Don't know why people pay all that money for the fiberglass reproduction ones? (maybe no good salvage yards in their area)

Sounds good, thanks for the info! I know right?? I guess we might be the lucky bunch to be able to get our hands on a factory non-ac box!?

So did a quick scuff with some 500 Grit, a layer of some paint and heres the finished product

Nice find! That is about what a heater box should cost. For some reason there has been a trend among idiots thinking they are worth $125+. Usually they throw in a buzzword like 1LE.

Thanks guys, looks like i'll be heading back to the jy for the wiring! Yeah im not sure why people would pay that kind of price! with $20 & a little bit of elbow grease and spray paint she looks good enough .Got her in today! Engine bay is looking great!!!!!!!! Getting that damn ac box out was fun! with some wiggling of the box and maneuvering of the wiring harness i was able to get her out. Will post pics tomorrow

That's a great score!! If the faceplate and wiring is junk, you can always cut the resistor hole just a tad bigger and use the 3 element resistor from your AC box...that way you can retain all 3 blower speeds!

I'll admit, I paid a lot more for my AC delete box, but it's amazing how much room it frees up!! Changing plugs or header gaskets is a breeze now!
