Knock sensor and Coolant temp switch wire colors 84 z28
Hi, I recently got my old car back and while looking it over found the knock sensor and Coolant temp switch unplugged. There are 3 wires in the general area, all with the ends cut off. I'm trying to figure out a way to tell what's what. If anyone can tell me wire colors or tell me if coolant temp switch is 1 or 2 wire on this car I'd really appreciate it. TIA.

KS wire come from the ECM harness. Fan switch wire comes from the engine harness.

CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) is a two wire connector coming from the ECM harness to the water neck (I assume you have either the L69 or LG4 motor?).
The lead for the coolant fan switch is a single wire. The wire is grounded through the switch itself which completes the circuit to engage the relay. With the car in 'run' you should be able to ground the lead and witness the radiator fan running ... provided everything else works as it should of course.

My bad on wording....i was talking about the fan switch. I have no idea on the coding. It had a 305 with no intake when I got it but I put a 355 in it. So ur saying the fan switch should be 1 wire? Can I ground it out and the fan kick on then, assuming I find the right wire? Is there anything similar I can do to test for a knock sensor wire? I'm pretty sure I know which wire is knock sensor but just want to make sure.

Year and type of engine would help. Knock sensor should be a white wire, fan switch would be black, grey, or green with a white tracer.

Fan sw would be green w white stripe. Correct routing is, out of the engine harness including the alt & choke, then over the right valve cover.
KS would be blue. Correct routing would be, out of the ECM harness that ends up at the diverter valve, then down toward the fuel pump and rearward to the KS.
Coolant temp sensor is yellow & black, comes from the harness that also goes to the carb, and is in the water outlet.

I just checked a little and the dark green wire makes the fan relay click when grounded, but no power to the fan. The other 2 do nothing.
I know the fan works because I had it jumpered for the time being
