Power Steering Pump bearings failing?
Ok, so my sons Bird started seeping some coolant from the water pump weep hole. It also made a knocking kind of bearing sound so, I assumed the bearings in the WP where toast.
Last night I put a new pump on the car and all went well until it started and low and behold that same noise was present. It sounds like a typical alternator bearing failure knock junk grind. Now the funny thing is it only does it when the car is cold.
So, to elimate items first i removed Air Pump belt but, still noise.
Next Alternator belt, still noise.
Then all that was left was PS Pump belt. I removed it and noise was dissapeared.
Now has anyone seen a PS Pump bearing make noise only when cold?
Also the car was originally a 305 but, now has a crate 350.
I can put my hand on the PS pump and feel a little roughness as I rock the pulley without a belt on it and it does have quite a bit of thrust play in shaft.
Just wanting to see if anyone had ever run into this.
Also my belt only goes around the Crank Pulley and PS pump but, the WP pump does have a groove where it could go if the belt was longer. Anyone got a belt diagram for a 350 equipped v belt engine.
On a side note does anyone know where a guy can get the the none AC equipped cars PS rearward bracket?
Thanks guys.
