Budget build

Today I purchased a bare small block 350, casting number #3970010 and I was wondering what recommendations for parts I could get if I was shooting for 300 HP for under $1000

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Budget build

That's old school 2 pc rear and iron heads. U really need the David Vizard "How To" books. One for overhaul and one for performance.

Re: Budget build

You aint going to do it for $1,000 that's for sure. Just starting with a bare block. Under $2,000 is more like it.

If block needs machine work.. Thats $300-500 for hot tank, bore, hone, install cam bearings, frost plugs, and hand pistons on rods.

Northern auto parts will have best price on your kit. $783 with scat crank, rods, flat top hyper pistons, etc.

Re: Budget build

Night Rider made a good post, I would look for a set of aluminum L98 heads or (probably not likely) if someone is selling a set of converted LT1 heads. With those heads it would save you from immediately needing to buy a new vortec specific intake. But Vortec unported are still a decent sbc head.
