Is there an easy way to tell if your plug wires are damaged?

Still trying to locate the cause of my mis-fire. Could be one of the following;

Coil pick-up
Fuel filter
Timing
Plug wires

So is there any way I can doa simple test on any of the above? Many thanks in advance.

look for sparkies at night ...

or check resistance of each wire (but on oem wires, that might not mean much).

If it was the timing, coil/pickup or fuel filter, it should not be just on one cylinder.

it could be a plug wier arcing. take a test light and hock it up to a ground, then run the probe along the lenth of the wire, if the wire has cracked insolation it will spark or arc to the tip of the probe.

This is an old way of checking for bad plug wires but it works for external cracks and arcing. Start the car at night, open the hood and mist the plugs wires with water from a windex bottle or something similar. If the wires have any cracks, you'll see the arcs very clearly. Other than that, check the resistance with a multi meter.
