When will my daily driver beat my 3rd gen?

I just bought an 88 Turbo Coupe for my daily driver. I can't keep my hands off of it and I'm worried that after $1400 I might beat my Firebird. Anyone else out there with the same problem? It's only a 16 sec car now, so I'm safe, my Firebird can hit a 14.2 on a good day. All I need is a turbo upgrade and I think I might beat myself. Hot Rodding is a disease and I think I'm addicted.

Car: 1991 Formula
Engine: 350 firebreathing inches of Small Block Chevrolet
Transmission: A 700R4 that has trouble handling the formentioned 350.
I would think that with $1400 in a turbo coupe you could probably get down into the low 14's. But it really depends on what you use the $1400 for. A turbo upgrade a some gears and you might be surprised how fast you'll be running.
Have fun, Garrett

hmm...

$45 boost controller from http://www.boostvalve.com

3" exhaust all the way back, no cats, no muffler ~$200

used GN intercooler ~ $350

conversion to a ranger roller cam ~$100

K&N for $45

DIY porting for your heads/intake/and exhaust manifold

yea...I think you'll easily be able to beat your Firebird for well under $1400

Car: too many ...
Not sure what the 88's came with but here's some other stuff to think about (might already have some of this stuff):

LA3 ECU - $50
#35 Brown Top Injectors - $50
Volvo 740 front mount Intercooler - $70
Large VAM - $20
Ported E6 exhaust manfolds - $150 online
3" Downpipe
3" Exhaust
RR or A237 cam

Free Mods:
Like mentoned above, DIY porting
Pull the 'Secret Plug' to raise boost from 10psi to 14 psi (make sure not to push it to hard or boom!)
Gut the car

check out www.turboford.com for a messageboard all about 2.3T

I've been to turboford, turbonetics, and turbotbird. the '88 pretty much so came with all of the stuff that everyone wants, so I'm good to go there. I know what you're talking about with the free mods. Those are good enough to drop a full sec on the ET. bybass the BCs for 15 psi at all RPM not just over 4K, unplug the knock sensor, reset the VAF, get rid of the intake piping, lose the 90 lbs or more of insulation, and the 40 lb seats. The biggest thing holding me back is the stupid IHI junk turbo. Good thing is I have a T3 .48/.63 off an '86 that's ready to bolt on. All I have to do is convince dad that he needs a T3/T4 hybrid. LOL. It's entirely too tempting. This car is suposed to be my daily, so I can't fool with it too much. I can't afford to lose any reliability. I should've got an escort or another horizon. Then I wouldn't be tempted as much.

That's what I was afraid of. It wouldn't be fair to the bird unless I spent that much on her too. Great, now I have to ask for a raise.

That was actually the original plan. After running a disappointing back to back 14.4 at 95 mph it's back to plan A. The heads are coming off this winter and are going to get ported, polished, 2.02 1.60 valves, 7/16 screw in studs, milled, balanced, etc. I'm hoping that will put me in the high 13s. I think my biggest problem right now lies either in the cam being too big, or the cheap converter I got is just chewing up power. My goal is mid low 13s on the street. Think that's possible?
