Got ahold of a GN sunday night

Well all the "street racers" meet at Books-a-million on sunday night and you talk, chill, and find people you wanna race if you feel like taking the risk. Now if any of you know me in the past I had a 92 v6 RS that I was so close to putting a 3.8L turbo buick engine in it but gave up when I pretty much had to go the automatic tranny route...but thats another story. Anyways I was talking with some guys out there and I was parked next to all the other Mustangs and well mine doesn't exactly blend in with the Saleen body kit and it being white. Anyways I see 3 Buick GNs sitting about 30 feet away. I just look them over for prolly 30 mins and after a while one of the GN owners come over to me and ask "Do you wanna run?" and I kinda didn't know what to say but it kinda came out by itself "sure". I guess he thought I was looking at them cause I wanted to race them, hell I was just admiring them. Well he goes back over there and talks to his friends for a min (other GN owners) and my friends started telling me what each one had cause I didn't even know the guys that had the GNs. LOL well one had a front mount and up boost, another had a bigger turbo and a stall converter, the other just had slicks and uped boost. I started getting nervous cause I KNOW what these engines can do. Well guess which one is gonna run me? Yep bigger turbo and a 3 piece A pillar gauge pod. He comes up to me and says that we are about to go run eachother. I got real close to saying forget about it but I didn't feel like having my G/F that was standing next to me give me hell for turning down a race. So we go out to the 2 lane road (totally safe, no other cars, and you can see down it for almost a good mile) anyways half the people in the parking lot go watch us. We get there and line up next to eachother and I do a 2nd gear burn out for a while to get the DRs good and sticky. Then roll up to the line. He does a massive (more show than anything) burnout and pulls next to me and hops on me. Ok I'm about as nervous as it gets now. I rev up to 4,000rpms and dump the clutch and all I get is a bark and I cant see the ground all through 1st and 2nd. 2nd goes by and the GN is at my door. I shift into 3rd and just start pulling and by the time I hit 4th I was a good 2 cars ahead. I know alot of GN guys personally and I knew they had nothing on top end. But this was an awsome race and it was by far the closest race I have ever gotten in. Thank G0D I keep the bottle full or he would have more than handed me my ***. I think the best part was when we were staging and he was torque braking it and I couldn't hear my own exhaust over his turbo spooling up. GOOD G0D I LOVE THOSE ENGINES! :hail: :hail:

It had me like it was my first race ever in my life. You know the pit in your stomach feeling? Like you first ticket or first time running from the cops? I was expecting the worse. But when I saw he wasn't pulling in 2nd I knew I had him. Thats the great thing about a DOHC V8, it just doesn't stop pulling

Wow!! What a race. You sure have fast cars where you meet up. Most cars that show up here are mostly all show and no go. The number of races have also gone down since the FHP got their new Z28s.

How do you hook your 275s??? I have the same 275/40/17s and anything over 2000 I spin them and cut 2.3 60's. This is at the track at 18 psi, and with a good burnout and VHT!!! What is wrong with my car, it seems to have no traction with the DRs!!! Good run with the GN.

Damn 18 psi on DRs? I think thats your problem. I run 13 psi and have even heard of people running 11 and 12 psi.

Monkie, you ought to post that on the turbobuick.com Kill Stories board. Maybe one or more of those GN owners are registered there.

Void the warranty

Monkie, change the pulley in the supercharger and get some headers. Then port your intake.

Hey Monkie I was told 15 psi is the minimum for the 17s, because they have been known to spin on the rim!!! I have ET Streets now so it doesn't matter, so I think I will sell the Drag Radials!!!

Definently the 87 GN, because there was no 87 TTA.

I would love to get a hold of a TTA but I have never even seen one in person. The only things around here to race are LS1s, LT1s, Mustangs, and your stupid ricers.

My plans for the 99 cobra or plans for the 03 cobra? Well plans for the 99 Cobra are following... I am downing the shot to a 75 shot. Why? I just cant handle the instant burst in power the nitrous gives you (it only kicks in at WOT) where as in the 03 Cobra I can ease into the boost. So the way I look at it with 125 shot I CAN get traction off the line but so far I have gone through 2 sets of 555s in 2 months. Thats $300 a month in rear tires alone! I think the main problem is that I run such low PSI in them. But at 15 PSI they don't hook for **** cause its either 320rwhp going down or its 450rwhp going down. So I either have to go through tires like mad to get traction or I have to sacrifice alot of time and speed in order to keep traction and spray in 3rd. Sorry I'm kinda getting off topic. Anyways I ordered 90mm MAF today along with 2003 Cobra 39lb injectors and at the end of the month I am going to get a P-1SC and run 8psi on top of a 75 shot. The reason I'm running a shot is cause nitrous freezes (or w/e you would call it) in coming air into the intercooler or engine. Wherever you spray it. So there for when you spray a 75 shot you get 55 more rwhp from your SCer if that makes any sense. And plus I got the nitrous kit so why the hell not use it?

And plans for the 2003 Cobra are long tube headers and maybe a saleen body kit later. There is pretty much no parts out that I don't have now on it so whats the use? And its plenty fast enough as it is so I'm just going to leave it alone until some more parts come out.

You've seen 03's with full exhaust - headers, 12" filter, custom dyno chip, and 14.5 psi pulley and they ran high 11's? Sorry but

In my 99 Cobra with the exhaust, gears, CAI, and shifter it ran a 8.3 in the 1/8th so I'm more than sure that I can get both of these in the mid 11's with no problem.

What part is BS????

BTW a 8.3 in the 1/8 is ONLY a high 12 in 1/4, BASIC automotive math.

1/8 mile time multiplied by 1.55.......

Just get your *** to the track and post a real number and see.

I've got a buddy that runs 11.50's at 121 on a 75 shot in his 5.0. He runs on slicks and his 1/8th times are 7.50. So either you're gonna have to run about a 130 trap or figure out how to drive if you plan on hitting low 11's

130mph trap speed for low 11's means one of 2 things, the person can't drive and OR lack of traction lol

Not quite rich. Not poor either. I have 2 jobs which one I work 30 hours a week and the other I work around 15 hours. Nothing great, gets me through payments but thats close to it. For the SCer I'm taking out a loan. I figure I can get that and build my credit at the same time.

I know what you mean Monkie, I work my a$$ off to pay for this car and hobby!!! I make nearly minimum wage so it is tuff, but I still do it. It helps that it is my daily driver, but the gas is rediculas, 20mpg isn't that cheap!!!

I still don't see how you make ends meet if you are paying real BILLS like rent and such, that is just ****ing amazing............but then again, my parents say the same thing to me since I have three hot rods sucking my pockets all at once plus I pay rent/phone/tv/cell..............all on near minimum wage working 30 hours a week and going to school! BWAHAHAHA I have my ways :lala:
