My friend has a new dodge avenger with a turbo on it. He says that he beat an older porsche and won an integra from that guy. He says he would woop my ***! He wants to race me in my 86 Trans Am WS6. I have a 350 TPI with a mild cam, custom chip (PROM), Magnaflow muffler, high flow cat. I also have a posi rearend with limited slip, 700R4 tranny with 3.27 gears. Do you think i could take him on? I dont know anything about the dodge avenger. Thanks.

I am not 100% but I think those cars with the turbo on them are in the mid 14s. I dont know what you run but it should be a good race. If he wins, it wont be an a$$ woopin.

I talked to my uncle who is very framiliar with my car. It used to be his then his sons then mine. He said with this new custom chip that im having put in right now I should be in the high 13's like 13.8 or 13.9 if i get some tips from him. He used to drag race all the time so i tend to think i should be able to hit the high 13's or really low 14's. Ill have to take it down to the track when it opens back up.

The Avenger was available with either a 2.0L four or a 2.5L v6. Neither one was a power monster. The v6 (Avenger ES) is a 17-sec
car stock, owing to it's 160-hp motor and high curb weight. Dodge never made a turbo version, so if this guy's Avenger has one, it's aftermarket.

My friend had an avenger. It was a 2.0 5-speed. He ran 18.8 at the track with it. So even if that car had a turbo it would be a 15 second car. Unless its a 6 with a turbo slapped on it. But if your in the 13's i don't think you have anything to worry about.

I didn't know the new Avengers had turbos on them. I thought they were all NA motors.

I think you should video tape it so that you can show it to all your friends, and us too. Then invite him over out of the blue and show it to him over and over and over. Then ask him how he felt when he wooped your a$$

They were all naturally aspirated. Dodge stopped producing the Avenger after the '99 model year. An R/T concept version was shown, but never made. The Avenger was overweight and underpowered. It was intended as a replacement for the Daytona, which ceased production after the '93 model year, but failed miserably in that regard. Unless it has some fairly serious mods, it shouldn't be a threat to a 13-second F-body.

The Daytona had a lot of potential, as did the Chrysler conquest. Making a newer model slower than its replacement - The people in charge of the Avenger as a replacement to the Daytona must have hired some people from GM.

What a coincidence, turbo charged Avengers were the topic of my lunch car discussion today. From what I learned and applying it to this, he probally has a scavenged turbo kit. He would run mid 14's if his car is not heavily modded. Then he might run low 14's with exhaust, headers and intake. Those things are just sad, I even beat on one while in the Brute Force, was just plain sad.

I love my daytona and think the avenger was a bad replacement, i've raced a few avengers and have beaten them, although it was obvious none of them were turbos so if he does have a turbo thats a different story, goodluck with that, race and report back

I did not know they made Daytonnas up until 93 and had V6's. I thought the Daytonnas came with the 2.2l turbocharded 4 cylinder.

Yea, the ES is a V6 3.0 with 141hp and 175 tq and 93 was the last year before they changed over to the avengers. They also had some sh1tty 4s that we're slow as anything and then the Shelbys and Irocs we're nice.

My friend has one thats the 4 banger! Ran a 15.6 on street tires with a lot of crap removed for weight, header, exhaust , and a cai. Not bad, and yes those cars are heavier than hell! He got a turbo for it and is planning on running some serious boost, b/c of his new internals. He hopes to run 13 all day on street tires. We'll see. good luck if you race him.

You have the car in your sig, right? Thats a Daytona, an Avenger is heavier. Plus, throw in a 160hp motor or whatever they came with and you get a dog. Not putting the car down, its just how it is with my friends car. When it was stock it was rediculously slow. Now he is able to take a lot of civics around the area. Not bad but still not what i would want out of a car. Sorry for the confusion, i was replying about my freind's Avenger. Later
