Smoked a modded 2nd gen TA
I was out driving around last night because the weather has been nice and the car is freshly waxed. I'm cruising Ritchie Hwy - a local strip 3 lanes wide, straight and level with lots of late night racing. I came up upon a coworker in his 77 or 78 Trans Am. Its got a 400, and its an auto. He just recently added a Holley 750 on top of an Edelbrock Performer manifold, Crane Energizer cam with .480" lift and 228* @ .050 single pattern on a 112 LSA . It's also got a custom 2.5" dual exhaust with Flows. Stock unknown gears and converter.
I started pacing him about 50MPH when he looks over and realizes who it is. I look over, and he jumps me. I nail it and caught up within a second and left him. At least 5 cars by 90. I slow and he catches up and we go again from around 50. But this time I yell over "On three!". He nods and on my 3rd honk we both hit it at the same time and again, no contest, at least 5 lengths by 90. We just pace each other for another few miles and catch a light. I stall it up and watch the other light. Light goes green and unlike with my Nitto DR which I DID NOT have on, my Kuhmos just spun all through 1st, meanwhile he gains about a car length on me. I chirp into second and whoosh! I get the lead back by about 1 car. Into 3rd and I'm steadily gaining, he lets off about 3 cars back, but I stay in it. I took it up to about 120 and he was WAAYY back. He eventually caught back up and another couple of miles down the road we caught antoher light. This time I was NOT going to lose off the line. I did not stall it, and took off about 1/2 throttle and nailed it around 15MPH. I got a little wheelhop but had him by 2 lengths when I hit 2nd. Halfway through second I let off ahead by 3 cars or so. Realizing I had went way past my turn, I gave a quick thumbs up and made a U-turn.
I saw him first thing this morning and the first words out of his mouth were "What do you run in the quarter?"

tpivette89 - I'll be there this spring, I guarantee you that. Whether its as it is now or after the heads/cam swap, I don't know. It should be obvious when I run it though! In the meantime I'll see if I can tape a TPI Vette getting humbled by the Z :

Heads, World Products S/R 76cc - just a stock replacement head made by WP that Jasper uses on 350 due to cost effectiveness. Barely better than a stock smogger head.
Cam, unknown. It's a Class 1 engine, so it's supposed to have a slightly hotter cam, but judging by the sound, powerband, and from what little I could get from the Jasper engineers, its around .420" lift and 210* duration.
No power adder - none needed or wanted. Just a ton of midrange

25THRSS - the cam is too big now! He's is still running stock converter and gears. It sounds REAL nice though, much better than mine.

My brother has a 77 Trans Am SE and it has 2.56 rear gears from the factory so if this guy has the same it is no wonder you won. I dont think his cam should be to big for a 400, although I would have used a split pattern cam. If he gets some gears and a torq converter it should really liven his car up.

Good run. Modded second gens are cool as hell. I would know. I wish I could find races like that, no one wants to race me. Oh well, good kill in any case.
