Recently I drive from Orange County to Humboldt County in CA. Along the way I had many fun races, with all sorts or cars. This story involves a 3rd gen trans am. Here's how it went down. I am driving in my 86GT and my girlfriend is along on the trip with me, but driving her own car, a '01 v6 mustang. She's in front of me, and the trans am comes up with some hick looking kid, total kid rock wannabe, reving and speeding up and slowing down. So she drops back and A go around her and yell "watch". I get next to the kid and he's blasting some crappy death metal. Well I look over and he's seen me I happen to have my windows plastered with all the manufactures logo's that parts power my car. Since it's got no top, when I drive with the windows down it looks like a beater. I roll up my window for a second and throw a rev. The kid just guns it. I hit 3rd at 4000-4200 and stopped his jump in the blink of an eye. 4th gear came and he was 5-7 cars back, and my girl's car had dissapeared. I got on the brakes and slowed to about 30mph. (On the I-5, a 70mph fwy. That's how empty it was, even in the day) He drove past with the music turned down, and drove away, didn't even look over at me.

From what I could gather his car seemed to be around a 88 model year, Had a nice rumble to it, with dual white racing stripes on blue paint. Car looked to be in great condition. That's all I know.

How could you tell it was an '88? I think most of the T/A's cosmetic features were very similar, if not the same from '85-'90. The Trans Am decals and rear spoiler are about the only two I could think of that might have been different.

Have you done anything to your engine nidyanazo?
By your description it looks completely stock.
