Lb9 vs 4.8 vortech
My friend has a shortbox regular cab GMC truck with a 4.8 freakin thing is fast!!! I know its not like a Ford Lightning or anything like that but he has no problem smoking every 4 banger in town by atleast 2 or 3 car lengths.
So anyway he has been dying to race me so we headed down the high way to our "track" and lined up one of our friends flaged for us and we took and off and HOLY BURNOUTS does that thing burnout but that cost him big and i beat him with my crappy little LB9. With our very scientific way of figuring things out i got 95 mph and he clocked in at 91..
All in good fun a rematch will happen soon enough

I dont know about the GM 4.8's, but i murdered my friends 2000 f-150 with the 4.6 triton and a 5 speed. And i only have a LO3. Passed him with the throttle at 80-90% (had to let it upshift
) within about 5-8 seconds of starting the race...and he started 1 car length ahead of me. I normally dont race but he was tauntin me leading up to this stretch of road that opened into 2 lanes, so when i blew by him i gave a nice little good bye wave and all he could give me was the middle finger.

depending on what year the truck is the LR4(4.8L) is rated at 255hp or 270hp@5200rpm and 285tq@4000rpm. I think those trucks are around 4000lbs so it should be a close race

Thats not bad at all....i was thinking of swaping a 5.3 in my car because they are way easy to get around here but a 4.8 would work too if i found one for cheap in one of the salvage yards
Its just like an LS1 swap right?
Oh my friends truck also has a CAI, dual exhuast, and a superchips tuner

the 5.3 isthe baby LS1.....they are pretty wicked. MY parents had a shortbed auto 5.3 2002 and I snuck it out to the local 1/8th mile track where it knocked down a best of 9.48 with usual 9.5's easily...thats no stalling up or anything, pretty insane. I dont know what itd pull in the quarter but I know I did it right after their fresh tranny job. I gave it a good tune up and I loved that truck, it pulled harder than hell...it wasfunny causeit could whip my old LO3's tail.....I got my buddy to run my Mustang back when it was stock against the Silverado and it was damn close but theMustang pulled about 2 cars and ran a 9.3 to my 9.58......still a good race indeed and I cent believe trucks have come this far!
BTW, Im considering a 5.3 swap into a thirdgen soon

i have a 2001 silverado with the 4.8, a flowmaster cat back and a descreened maf. i beleive this year is rated for 285 horsepower@5350 and 295 lb. ft. of torque. with the flowmaster and descreened maf its barely licking 300? But im really impressed with the way it runs, really quick for a fullsize, 0-60 is in the low 6's i think, i was using the stopwatch on my cell phone so im not really sure how accurate that was. but i had no problem keeping up with a stock 5.0 the other day, had a cat back exhaust, that was all it had.

like i said, cell phone stop watch and doing it by eye, it was definitely still in the 6's i have to stick by that. First and second are pretty low gears, 3rd drops it a little lower in the powerband so it will top out so it slows down just a little but once it gets back in the band it feels like first and second again. My friend gets his iroc back from the shop tomorrow, ill see if he'll line up just to see how close i was to the right time.

Yes basicly the way things are going the average 4 door sedan will be running along side Lt1 F-bodies and pickup trucks will take a L98 Iroc while towing a boat.....see how technology progresses?
