Re: what stangs could i run with?
well to be honest you can run with any of them. Weather you can outrun now thats the question you should be asking. Depending on what type of mustang encountered will determine the answer. Do your research, what types of mustangs/bodystyles are you dealing with. A bare bones fox with a few upgrades can surprise you, just as a bone stock 96-97 gt is liable to be an easy kill. What type of mustang will you be going against?

Re: what stangs could i run with?
ive raced lots of mustangs... The 5.0s.. if stock not a problem, lol. like 94, stock is also slow, lol. The newer ones should hang with you, and make a good race. personaly im a bit of a mustang fan cuz they have a nice exhaust tone and from what ive noticed they mod well. But they always make a good race, win or lose i always give a smile or give a friendly wave. Unless there the cocky type then its our thirdgen dutie to rip it up, lol.

Re: what stangs could i run with?
It takes a LOT in a Mustang to run 13s... Most 13 second Mustangs will need strokers, heads, cams, intakes, probably a power adder as well. A 5.0 is a mid to high 15 second car, with bolt ons miiiight go 14s at best. Then add all the go fast HCI parts and if the chassis doesnt twist in half, maybe mid 13s... On slicks that is. Being in the 13s you should be able to walk most if not all unless they swapped the motors out, and did a lot of chassis work...

With that said, OP the crappiest ones have to be the 96-98 GTs. It would be like comparing a TBI car to a TPI car, to put it in perspective. The 94-95 are also 5.0s, just like the older foxes (79-93) but they weigh more.
OP, good luck!
BTW, mustang people are very much *******s, no doubt; in fact, I don't really hang out with too many clubs locally here. I'm really not too sure why, and it even seems stang vs. stang, there is a lot of competition. I remember when I was driving any of my past camaros, the comraderie was there. I guess the blue oval sucks that out of the equation?

If you're being serious, you 1) have no idea what you are talking about and 2) obviously suck at driving. Foxes w/ just the air silencer out and DRs can go high 13s w/ a very good driver, but most people will likely see low 14s w/o DRs. Add simple bolt ons like intake, header-back exhaust, pullies, short throw, etc. its a high 13 second car. Once you get into H/C/I its an easy low 13/high 12 sec car w/ DRs; subtract a bit for some good street tires. If I went to the trouble of doing a 347 H/C/I stroker and ran 13s, I would off myself immediately.

Ive personally seen 13.9 @ 99 with nothing more than an off road H pipe on an 88 LX hatch. Bone stock, 3.08 gears, even had 16 wheels and tires from a newer one. Father went bone stock low 14s at 1000' elevation. But these cars arent stock anymore.

Re: what stangs could i run with?
One of the guys I hang out with on the weekends has a 1988 GT with a Holley Systemax II top end on a rebuilt 302. He has got some suspension upgrades (can't remember the brand or parts specifically but no sfc's), and a stock AOD transmission. I have seen him run 12s pretty consistantly on a 1/4 mile at about 1500 ft elevation using DRs. We have a lot of Mustang on Camaro races late at night.
With the set-up it looks like you have, you should be solid competition for the stangs throwin you revs. Hey, if you end up loosing to a couple, which you probably won't unless they are built, it will just give you something to shoot for!

Re: what stangs could i run with?
Thank you I thought I was about to have to set someone straight. Although I have to correct you on one issue the 98 gt's were head and shoulders above the 96-97. The 98's were given the PI set up (performance enhanced for the uninitiated amongst you) meaning they got the better flowing heads, intake and a less restrictive stock exhaust. To give the OP an example of the lack of power in a stock 96-97 mustang gt; my 4x4 dodge durango w/the 4.7 blows the doors off of them and its STOCK. They get off the line a little quicker but I usually run them down w/in 200 or so feet.
Secondly your wrong, 96-98 were the same, the motor changes came in 99 with the new edge body style...

Haha, yea I was hoping that was, and based on the sig, I was wondering what you might be smoking
Seconded on the 96-98 non-PI and the 99-04 PI heads. There was no diff between 97 to 98 at all, its the same POS motor.
Now the DOHC 4V motors are a bit of a different story

Trust me, sarcasm may not come through on the internet, but I can assure what I said was laced with it. I know what Mustangs run, we happen to have 6 of them in the driveway, 4 that have been down the track more times than can count...

Re: what stangs could i run with?
yes the 96-97 cars were not worth much hp/tq wise. However with just a few changes they are fully capable of much better performance. The 98 on the other hand while not a perfomance master by any means was a completely different animal. In stock form they were much more of a contender and with simple boltons and a good driver would give fbody's and the like a good run for the money.

Re: what stangs could i run with?
IIRC the 94 has somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 hp and about 280 tq w/the 95 being the same. It was the same 302 hold over from the early 90's (untill the 4.6 was ready for production) and was a solid performer and a great base for upgrades. Now here's where I differ from alot of mustang enthusiasts, while I love the sound of the old pushrod v8's the 4.6 responds to the same upgrades MUCH better than the 302's. Performance dollar for dollar the modular motors are much easier to squeeze the hp/tq out of. IMHO that is.

Doc_G...
Please tell me you don't think those are the power ratings from a V8 car. Those listed are the V6 power ratings...
Why do people post misinformation. You honestly think the 4.6 GT made 150 hp???
Do you people HONESTLY think that? My god!

I agree that the 4.6 GT does make more than 150hp, it made around 215 first in 1996, then 225 in 97-98 then after the engine overhaul in 99' it made 260hp, it stayed like that until 05'.

i know this is a bit far back in the thread but i belive viper asked to see a stock or barely modded fox running 13s....my friends got a 91 lx auto with exhaust and 4.10s and thats it not even an intake... he holds his own with the bird from my sig using street tires... and with street tires its a very low 13 second car.

let me say it again..... STOCK means NO MODS!!! 4.10s are a HUGE mod for a stang. my car would be fast with 4.10s too! then add just an exhaust and you got a fast 1/4 car with no top end...

k i re-read i had it in my head the you meant stock or barely modded but if stock is the case your right 13 seconds is not reality for a stock fox

Re: what stangs could i run with?
To answer the thread posters questions: You can hang with a lot of stangs and beat a good bit too.
Given your mods, I would say you would beat most bolt on gt mustang out there.

13.9 with an off road H-pipe. My friends 5-speed hatch with 3.08s.
14.2 with nothing done at all, and the car had 2.73 gears, not the optional 3.08s. Dads 91 Hatch with a 5-speed.
I don't expect anyone to believe me, this is a thirdgen site, but I can assure you they ran these times. My dads with a midpipe, catback, 3.55s, hoosiers and a pair of struts went 13.3 @ 101.
Also to note, 4.10s will not hurt the top end of these cars. My brothers car with a stock cam runs about 120 mph at the top of 4th with 4.10s, and well over 140 in overdrive. If your going faster than that on the street, well it doesnt matter what gear you have, you will most likely hurt yourself and others.

Re: what stangs could i run with?
sweet,i had my first race the other day since the lt1 swap, my buddy on his 04 suzuki katana 600 started messing with me a little bit as we were leaving town so i figured id get beat cause i heard those are 12sec bikes in the 1/4 but i was like screw it i can atleast see how she holds up to a 12 sec bike so we went from about a 40mph roll to 120+ and i spanked him,i pulled over to see if he wanted to go from a dig and he pulls up and says "damn that things fast, you left me like nothin'"he said he took his bike up to 120 and i was way ahead of him and when i asked him if he wanted to go from a dig he was like "no way man"lol, does this seem possible or was his bike not running right?

sweet,i had my first race the other day since the lt1 swap, my buddy on his 04 suzuki katana 600 started messing with me a little bit as we were leaving town so i figured id get beat cause i heard those are 12sec bikes in the 1/4 but i was like screw it i can atleast see how she holds up to a 12 sec bike so we went from about a 40mph roll to 120+ and i spanked him,i pulled over to see if he wanted to go from a dig and he pulls up and says "damn that things fast, you left me like nothin'"he said he took his bike up to 120 and i was way ahead of him and when i asked him if he wanted to go from a dig he was like "no way man"lol, does this seem possible or was his bike not running right?

If you're being serious, you 1) have no idea what you are talking about and 2) obviously suck at driving. Foxes w/ just the air silencer out and DRs can go high 13s w/ a very good driver, but most people will likely see low 14s w/o DRs. Add simple bolt ons like intake, header-back exhaust, pullies, short throw, etc. its a high 13 second car. Once you get into H/C/I its an easy low 13/high 12 sec car w/ DRs; subtract a bit for some good street tires. If I went to the trouble of doing a 347 H/C/I stroker and ran 13s, I would off myself immediately.
a sn95 5.0/NPI 4.6 will run high 14s/ low 15s, and auto verts going as high as low 16s and trap ~90 mph.
a new edge 4.6 will run low 14s, and the new s197s will run mid/high 13s
