1 Day, My First Two Kills

1 Day, My First Two Kills
Round One. Macarthur Rd., Whitehall, PA. 3pm. Red Light Challenger.
I have had my '84 T/A for almost a month and the occasional rice eater has sped by me with no response from me. My general opinion of the kids in their little Hondas and what not is that they are inexperienced and typically dangerous. Why go through the hassle of proving something I already know? Regardless, I pull up to a light on a stretch of macarthur road. A 90-something Mustang GT (dressed to kill and the sound to prove a 302) pulls up beside me. He revs his motor and smiles at me, slightly chuckling at my stock, faded, slightly dusty, and low idling T/A. I revved back at him and did a quick cop check. My eyes turned to the light which was painfully long. The light went down to green and I floored it. I wanted to make him pay for his laughter. I got to thirty and shifted into Drive, That's when my 305 really got underneath me. It flew upwards, 60-70-80 as he unwantedly fell back to three and four cars as I just kept going faster. We stopped two lights down and he looked my car up and down once more, this time there was no grin or smile on his face as he rolled up his window and slumped in his seat, glaring at his insanely huge aftermarket tachometer.
Round Two. 378 South bound right lane on ramp. Bethlehem, PA. 530pm. Rolling Start. 40 mph.
I entered 378 on my way home from work. I must admit that I had a bad day at work and was on the lookout for a little fun. Well, here it was. A '90 or so neon, ground effects and a tip on the exhaust thought he was the man. Hottie in the passenger seat with dolce sunglasses on and him with preppy hair and a smile that said "My mommy and daddy bought me this". He pulled ahead and back to me lookin' to run. Without even thinking twice I went down to Drive and took off. I got up to about 100. (speedometer only reads out at 85 so I have to guess after that.) I looked back to see him struggling to 85 about 6 buses back. I slowed up for the construction zone and he fell in behind me, that smile had turned into a frown which was cursing as he beat on the wheel. His girl looked into my rear view and lowered her glasses just enough to let me see her wink. I laughed as I turned onto Third st. I would be lying if I said I wasn't grinning from Third st. to home.
Just a side note here, Sorry if these stories are long winded and seemingly egotistical. I know that my F body isn't the biggest or best in the world by a long shot. But I take pride in it. I love it as if it were my life. So, I apologize if I seem full of myself.

Ok, After some reading up on this JoeBlow fellow, I understand your reference. I don't appreciate being insulted. Being a new member, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. However, in my accounts of what happened to me, I did not race for pinks or cash. And would you have liked for me to have a video of my racing that day? Would you like a scan of a signed and notorized document proving that I raced them? Do you not believe that my little stock 305 is capable of such kills because I haven't dumped a million dollars in mods into it? I am proud to say that my car is bone stock and I wouldn't have been proud of those kills any other way. Instead of a congrats, you chose to try to insult me because I didn't have to modify my car with months of intensive work and thousands of dollars in parts to make it run like a champ. If you don't have anything productive to add, keep your text to yourself.

that mustang should have walked away from you no problem... if it is stock. 302's were pretty strong.

i too own a 84 ta, mines the 15th anniversary TA, but i too have the 305. i have been told how its a huge pos motor how the computer chip is the only saving grace how just about anything will beat my car forget those guys. if i put the pedal to the floor you hear my 84 revv up hard, hits, shifts, and throws up the front(lifting weight off but no wheelies of course).
im going to go with yes and no, more info on his stang would be needed in my opinion. a guy i work with has a mustang, and that thing couldnt beat my 4banging zx2 or come close to even keeping up. his car runs but his tranny is slipping, and i think he is getting poor compression. he still drives it like he has the new ktr 500hp mustang thing, and has this very thing happen. so to be fair not all guys who drive around have perfect running cars. a very well taken car of 302, would more than likely walk him, however if its a 5speed maybe the guy cant shift. or maybe seeing as how i have little respect for stang guys as they think they are hot **** and dont really take care of their cars(i know 3 stang guys, they rarely change oil, check fluids, change filters, and they run regular gas ie not premium, and if the ethonol based gas is cheaper they use that......anyways im not in any way calling bs just maybe not assume this guy driving the stang is a ase certified mechanic, and maybe he is just some moron.

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Ummm, I run "regular" gas as well, and I'm pretty sure your 305 doesn't need premium fuel. "Regular" fuel makes MORE power than premium if the premium is not needed. I also run 18 degrees of timing. But I guess running "regular" gas makes someone look as though they don't take care of their car??? Not sure where that logic comes in, but... okay...
I can't comment on your Mustang stereotype of them being abused, and not taken care of, as the Mustang owners I know all have nice, almost (and in a LOT of cases) magazine quality cars. Each area is different though, so maybe around your parts the Mustang owners don't care for them?
Your point about not knowing the Mustangs shape and driver is true. I have seen many cars run crappy times because of different variables. This is why knowing his mod list we can get a better understanding.

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
well, i have been under the impression and maybe im wrong that in general for alot of cars premium is better than other gas types, i certainly wondered if it was that important and have put regular gas in all my cars, and have noticed a more sluggish response and slower acceleration however maybe thats just in my head. the big thing about the gas was that they put whats cheapest in and run the corn stuff along with regular and maybe run some premium too. i figure that running all those different types of gas through would just dirty up your fuel filter quicker and cause general problems with the car however im just kinda speculating.
also i live in the midwest or omaha nebraska. around here mustangs are commonly refered to as rustangs, and either a mustang spends 99% of its life in a garage, or never sees a garage. also there is a good sized ***** community and for the most part the mustangs hang with them, and the only thing not touched is the motor or trans on those guys's cars.
i think my stereotyping comes from where i am, and i am kinda a pontiac guy, but love fbody's in general. and here its almost like rival gangs in a way, you see packs of mustangs, packs of camaros, and packs of firebirds and t/a's sometimes the camaros mix with the firebirds but you rarely see all three playing nice unless its at a car show, and its a bunch of old guys.
i think on this situation im going to bank on problems with the mustang/not well taken car of, then again some guys drive their cars like babies, and the car runs like a baby.

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Yeah, being in the north east where I live there is a HUGE Mustang following. I am less than two hours from where the Mustang craze began. Our car club has nearly 200 members all with nice Mustangs. I know of dozens that are magazine feature cars, 700-800-900+ hp cars, etc... Rarely do I see one that's abused, unless it is stock owned by a non car guy, or a project car. Interesting how the stereotypes differ depending where you live.
The Mustang could have been beat or ragged on, or the OP has some healthy mods? Not sure on that, and never will be.
Also the fuel thing, premium fuel allows more timing, but if you can do so on less octane, you will make more power.

you know it shows real love of cars to be a mustang guy on an f-body forum, you should give him props for all the crap he probably gets and how he still is around.

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Welcome to the site 84 TA, but you have to understand that we see alot of posts like this that turn out to be bogus. Also, alot of us are really knowledgeable on what engines came in what cars with what hp ratings. I'm not saying a 305 can't beat mustangs and neons (srt4's). I've eaten quite a few but on spray. No way I can take any stock even with F.I. and full bolt on's. If your story is true, congrats, if not, oh well.
As far as mustang owners not taking care of their cars, I've seen both mustang and fbody owners mistreat their vehicles. So I think the cars are more irrelivant than the owners. In our car club we have really nice cars like Mustangs (Mach 1), Fbodies, (SS and Blackbird Trans Am) and even nice imports (Skyline)....

Actually a bolt on 305 TPI car could walk a stock 5.0, I don't think you "need" a 350, or "need" good gears, or "need" spray...

Hey, personally, i like 25thmustang. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to mustangs, and he knows the potential of our cars, good and bad.
The only thirdgen i consider 'fast' is the l98, stock at any rate. Why do you think we don't leave our vehicles stock. I personally replaced the ***** 305 with a 350 and began the modding process
The whole thing with the chick winking is a little...out there, you looked into your rear view mirror and saw that? he must have been really up close...
the neon race seems possible, he didn't say it was a srt4, just a 90's pos neon that most of us could beat on a bicycle. the mustang on the other hand doesn't seem right though...

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Some of you are forgetting the "driver mod" for the mustang. Yes, stock it's faster than the 305, but have a poor driver that could be new to a manual, and it's understandable he won, or maybe not taking care of it. Around here newer mustangs aren't taken care of, always dirty, sluggish, and sound like they have exhaust and vacuum leaks. Only ones that are well taken care of are the 5.0s and 60-70s mustangs.
Yes, his story seems a little exaggerated.
He said he slowed down because of a construction zone, and the neon fell in behind. So seeing someone wink in the rear view mirror wouldn't be hard.
If his story is more believable than joeblow, then give him the benefit of the doubt. Just my two cents.

I knew I could count on this forum for a controversial thread, wow that's one badass 305! I wish my vision was that good, to be able to see women wink at me in the rear view mirror while driving, some guys got all the luck!

OMFG I didn't see the wink part...
Thats hilarious.
Do these things really happen? I'm pretty sure some guys GF didn't pull her glasses down and wink at some other random guy who they just raced (winking at someone looking through their rearview mirror nonetheless). I know it is everyones fantasy to race someone, beat them and then have the other guys girl want you... but to actually expect us to believe this happe... I can't even finish the thought.
Good stuff here.

Ok this is so pathetic, There are so many new immature members on here.... If you don't anything nice to say don't say anything at all... There are tons of variables, and most of the youngsters on this site don't have a clue what they are talking about. I have been o nthis site for awhile and sure i have engaged in some pretty heated debates, and i'm sure 25th can vouge for me in that aspect, but most of you guys are ragging on everything, its quite immature. The kid beat some cars he's proud, just like i was my first kills in my Camaro. Some of you need to think about growing up...

This is a theoretical and street racing board, not a tech board. I'm not 100% sure what you would expect on these kinds of posts? Just a bunch of people saying, "Good job", or what? No disrespect meant...

personally i like to race when its not a horrible idea(ie rush hour, on the main strip)
i think alot of new members(not that i have room to talk) think that since they may not know a ton about the mechanics of cars, can only shoot the bull here if they make a awesome race story.
i think its fun to talk about racing, but you start to pick up on the embelishments and then its kinda pointless.
not calling anyone a liar just saying.
anyways just thought id post my

Ye sir there Mr. Viper, Since my parents are dead I sure am glad that you are around to keep me in line! I've been on this forum for years, left for awhile and came back. People shouldn't lie on here and they wouldn't catch crap. And you are nobody to tell me what to do, if you want to tell me how to act become a moderator...Thank you very much!

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Actually I wasn't kicked off, my folks died had to move home and take care of some biz, then I was hit in the 87 IROC and injured. The amount of posts someone has means nothing. You telling me what to do means nothing! I made one joke, big deal, I am not the one name calling. You sound just like my ex-wife trying to control everything, I hope you have a nice night and a better weekend. The weather is finally nice here, been out ridin all night and plan to do so alll weekend. C-ya King Viper....

Can we all just agree this story is exaggerated at best, and quit all our fighting. It seems we all agree on the same thing, yet we're all still fighting. What's the point in that?

Viper, you sound like you have a chronic yeast infection, you should get that taken care of! I am glad that you have filled my clueless *** in' it's not the quality that counts. it's the quantity that makes me an expert like you. You have just showed me that any further reasoning or debate w/you is pointless. The amount of posts someone makes has nothing to do w/ what they know. As far as my knowledge, I know that i am wasting my time at this point, have a good day...

Okay, so it was a one way argument that you kind of kept going. I don't see how the amount of posts you have really matter on street racing forums, seeing how its not a tech thread, its mainly just to throw your opinions out there.

Re: 1 Day, My First Two Kills
Wow and you think that you mature? You make me laugh, i have seen more mature 13 year olds than you. Also i never said the amount of posts do make the difference what i said was... based on what i have seen on this forum the members with more posts generally tend to be more knowledable... Not saying all oif them or the newbs are retadrs but alot of then tend to show quite an amount of immaturity. Which i'm seeing in J91.... I have no argument with him he just can't accept it as it is... he just must love to argue and think he's the boss of the forum. And not this reply didn't diss on al lthe new members, i would say its about half and half....
