84 Z28 vs this VW

From a dig who would outrun the other? My car no longer has anything computer or emissions related. I'm not sure what kind of VW that is, was hoping someone could tell me. His car is stock, it's just lowered and has the spray painted wheels and i'm sure the luggage rack is on the way soon too lol.

DETAILS! They would help. Can't just guess from a pic of his car and no info about yours.

Re: 84 Z28 vs this VW

Gotcha. Well mine is just a 305 HO. L69, 700r4, 3.73's, no emissions or computer controlled equipment anymore, magnaflow cat. I really don't know anything about his besides that it's all stock besides a lowering kit. Not sure of his engine size but it is a manual car. I was hoping someone would know what that car is. This guy was my friends neighbor and started talking crap about my "old turd"

All that is is a mid 2000's vw jetta. Some had the 1.8 turbo if im correct but even then your l69 shouldnt have a problem with it anyway.

I hate **** talking little turds with mommy and daddys car they provided for him. Put a strong 350 in your car, a 400 turbo trans and a 750 holley double pumper. That should teach him. If you run him with your poop 305, he might win

Was just trying to make the youngster with the camaro feel better is all
Anyway if he is saying your car is old and beat, prove him otherwise bro. I was in your shoes once(27 now). You would be surprised what your car can beat.

L69 is the wonder child of the thirdgens. It's considerably faster than it should be. I think you will take him ESPECIALLY from a dig. If you had the t-5 I would place all money on you.

Even with the auto i really dont see how the jetta is competition for a bolt on l69. the jetta might make like 150 hp and your somewhere around 200 plus all the torque. Go out and smoke his a**.

Re: 84 Z28 vs this VW

may be on the street you will have a chance?, if you little 305 is not fresh, like 120+++. on the clock, my might want to talk **** how you know your car and have made it better. on the autocross he might have you, that's saying you all have equal driving skills. but if the 305 is fresh and you have new springs & good shocks you should be able to put him in his place!

Thanks guys, if he will actually come out and race then i'll post up the results. I don't see why people say the 305 is a paper weight, I know its just my first car and everything but man I think it's fast. Its got just over 80k on it now

Probably because most 305 thirdgens are dog slow and they have a small bore and don't make a lot of power factory.

Just make sure that isn't a diesel TDI with a rocketchip. Most likely not. Diesel owners never gay their cars up like that.

Re: 84 Z28 vs this VW

If that is a turbo 4, they are very easy to modify and can pump out decent power and never show it.

But FWD, possiblr turbo lag, and lowered does not equal a strong takeoff.

Incorrect.

Thats a MK5 Jetta (2006-2009 I think?) Most of the MK5 Jettas (I think all except the GLI in fact) are 2.5's. Not exactly fast, but not so slow as to think you should have an easy time. I think they have 174hp or so.

You could win, you could lose.

I believe that if this were a bolt on lg4 or lo3 car this would be a close race with him possibly getting beat but the l69 is almost as quick as the tpi cars, and with the bolt ons and 3.73 gears i really dont see a close race even from a roll as unlike tpi the carbed l69 made its power at higher rpm.

Re: 84 Z28 vs this VW

I guess race and find out. I sure would hate losing to a car with pink wheels.
