My modded iroc vs 06 silverado Z71 5.3

Lady I work with, her son just bought a new 06 Z71 5.3 silverado 1500.He thinks its fast.I think they they have around 335 hp,so i know its knothing to sneeze at but it should also have a speed limiter.I figure i`d smoke em over a hundred ten or twenty. My wife had a 06 tahoe with the 335 hp 5.3 i think it was.Made good power for such a huge truck. So what do yall think?

my dad has an 03 Suburban 5.3 liter and its pretty quick but they are no match for your car. plus they are speed limited at 100 mph. so i wouldnt worry too much if i were you.

Yea, my father recently bought a year or two old 2500 Silverado with the 6.0 liter, its pretty strong, but no match for a decent running F-body. Trucks feel a lot quicker than they are in general. Defintely has a speed limiter, 98mph I beleive, due to the speed rating of the factory tires.

Towing, and hauling ***, both require similar gear ratios. Most cars that really haul *** have pretty steep (numerically high) rear end ratios, as do most vehicles built for towing. I'm not sure what you mean.

I`m just pretty sure my cars not making much over 300 hp if it is making that.I was sure the factory speed limiter would give me a huge edge.335 hp is just nothing to sneeze at even if it is a truck.I guess I just try not to under estimate any body even though I was pretty confident I had this one.

just cause he's making more hpp doesnt mean he's going to beat you. your car is lighter and more aerodynamic.

You should destroy him. You r motor makes just as much power if not more (the '06 5.3 was only rated 295hp and the new '07 5.3 mils are rated 325hp). Although they are slightly underrated your car weighs 1500+ lbs less and should blow him away.

i have a 1990 iroc pretty much stock and my friend has a 2000 5.3 silverado. off the line theres no chance for him but any sort of roll its even til 3rd gear and he takes it from there. depends on the race and the newer 5.3s have more power. it also depends on your mods.

If I was him I would throw a 150 shot on the truck just to embarrass you and never tell you what I did. But I am just evil like that.

Depends, converter and gears make them waky waky. My trailblazer 5.3 is pretty decent after I shut off the tq management.

Re: My modded iroc vs 06 silverado Z71 5.3

Wow,this is an old one.Its been a while but i do remember handing him his butt, repetadly. Those trucks are heavy. It did spawn a race with a buddy of mine and his trailblazer ss.Who couldnt believe his 400 hp 400 tq TB SS was beaten by my car.I tried to explain to him before that he was so heavy i would probably win.He didnt want to hear the whole 100 lbs is about like loosing 10 hp and he out weighed me by around 1500 lbs so subtract about 150 hp.The TB SS did fair much better than the silverado.Neither had a chance in the 1/8th but the TB SS was coming on strong towards end of the 1/4.
I know my car is no race car but its nice for my 25 y/o faded paint job car to beat or hold its on with newer vehicles even if some are heavy tucks.
I do know the TBSS responds crazy to mods because i have been beaten by another pretty bad.
One thing that sucks is they are making newer cars with so much power off the showroom floor that for an average guy like me its getting harder and more expensive to even try to keep up.Time for some N2O i guess but its now illeagal to have it here off the track, not that I would really need it on the street but it would be nice to have sometimes on deserted roads.

I bring a gun to a gun fight, mid your 5.7 or do like many of us and use the newer engines, level the playing field. Had a trailblazer SS make me work to come around him, he had nitrous, cam and all the works. I was all motor but the lesser weight still let me out run him. I wish I had a ls2 like the trailblazer instead of my lq4, would be a touch more power and a bit less weight.

No offense, but I take it you dont run your car too often, 'You car stock should run 14.5s. My stock 91 Z28 did. That truck stock would be hard pressed to run a 15.5. S10s with 4.3 and bolts ons, gear hardly ever break out of the 16s unless they spray them. What was surprisingly quick was a buddy of mine owned an 02 std cab z71 step side that had a tuner, CAI and a catback and had to run 15.6s or so cuz it would pull my other friends S10 that would run 16.0 all day long. Long story short You got this

No offense, but the original post is like 5 years old! Aewing90 resurrected the post by replying to it like it was a newer post.

I realize this post is older, but I think its funny how underestimated a truck really is.

My 2006 Quad Cab Hemi Ram ran 13.50s in the 1/4 @ 98-99 mph.

My 2012 Crew Cab Titan runs 14.20s @ 96 mph in this Dallas area heat wave and will get quicker when the weather cools off.

Stock 5.3 trucks are WEAK in a major way. I was only running 9.15s in this pass.

This poor HHR SS had no idea what he was going up against.

07 up 5.3 are not bad at all. Especially with a tune. My carbed 4.8 (2009 engine) in my 94 gmc runs pretty hard. Whooped the 345 hp hemis, ly6 trucks, lq4/9 trucks, they can get down.
