Speeding Tickets

I was wondering how many speeding tickets has everyone gotten.

Personnaly i have gotten 2. Since i got my license last April. and both have came within the last 2 months, maybe its because i'm driving an import , oh well.

And i was wondering if radar detectors really work good.

None. I generally stay within 5 mph of the speed limit on regular roads and less than 10 over on the highway.

3 speeding, 1 excessive noise, 8 other pullovers and releases. no points though. radar detectors help sometimes, but you know the thing will only go off after the cop radars you.

none, my car has a restriction device called "the Lg4", it is a highly sophisticated device that will not allow the driver to reach speeds that are illegal.

I bought my 85' back in 1990 when I graduated from h.S. I drove to Georgia for Jersey for 2 years with it bone stock. I got busted in just about every state except N.J.(That is amazing N.J. cops are *****). The points never carried over. My car never had a valid inspection sticker for the whole time I drove it. I cleaned out my car about 2 years ago and found dozens of tickets most for stuff like bad inspection/seat belts etc. I rarely paid them. I've been stopped from everything from speeding to burn-outs and usually pulled away with a seat-blet ticket. I even tried out running them a couple of times. I was caught in my home town mostly so the flack wasn't too bad. I pulled the car off the road 2 years ago because I got stopped and issued a ton of tickets. The inspection tickets aren't $20.00 anymore there like $140. I was really lucky and towards the end before pulling the car off the road I raced at the track and not on the street. I hope to be back on the road now legally. I will probably stomp a couple of imports because they suck really bad and sound like ****. I will be 30 in a couple of months. I may be out of touch but I don't get the whole import thing.

How about 75 in a 35 $170 ticket, got bumped down because of first offense, not on my record.

Zero tickets...

Ive been driving for 4 years. I do get on it quite a bit, I just am not stupid. When I am not on the gas I like to go with the flow of traffic, which most of the time is 5-15mph over the limit.

I do have a radar detector. I only got it for those times I find myself at a stoplight next to someone who wants to race. And yes, it works and has saved my @ss.

Also I'd like to note that I get pulled over ALL THE TIME. They just cant seem to find any reason to ticket me. I think its the whole 20 year old guy driving trans am thing. If the cops want to pull me over to chat about the weather Im game.

I wouldn't bragg about not having any. Seems like they all come at once. I went 4 years without a ticket. Then in 1 months time I got 67 in a 30, 40 in a 30 and then anoter for no seat belt. I would have got another for no seat belt but I took a couple quick side streets and got away.

Now I just go the speed limit or 5 over on 2 lane roads and 10 over on highways, or the flow of traffic, which ever is greater. And I don't have a clue how I managed to ALWAYS be going 67 each time I was nailed.

I drive a RED 91 Z28 with a relitively loud exhaust and a bunch of other mods(cam, heads, chip). I get on the gas quite often and fog the tires every once in a while, but i ALWAYS GO THE SPEED LIMIT. No tickets since i got my license 3.5 years ago, been pulled over for "tresspasing" aka turning around in a parking lot and for "accelerating too fast" but no tickets

I got three tickets before i was 18, four after, right now im 19, the best story of my "tickets" is passing a cop on night on my way home from college around midnight doing 115mph in a 65 in my 89 2.8 V6. After getting escorted to his car I some how got cought up in a conversation of what i did in school and if he liked his job, we then chatted about being a carpet installer cause "that is where the money is and they are backed up for months." 45 minutes later i was let go and laughing all the way home.

Some how I still have my lisense. But got scared enough that I slowed down.... for a few days anyways. Wait till I get my 350 finished.

one of the crazyest times i got pulled over was when i was traveling across country buy myself. I was doing a move so I had a U-haul trailer on the back of my car, (not the IROC), had the bike in the tailer and everything I owned. It was in ether Tenn or Kentuky. on the interstate I was going 74mph in a 70mph zone. state guy pulled me over!!! he had the ***** to ask me if I knew why he pulled me over!!! told me I was speeding!!! this was in the middle of the day too. He asked me where I was going...etc.
I showed him my military ID and everything. he never even ran it. just told me to slow down....
never understood that.
then there was the time I cut off a city detective in a unmarked car on the interstate. I was going about 95mph. he pulled me over at a exit. when he steped out of the car and I saw he was in plan clothes I knew I was going to get off, and I did. city has no say on the interstates. plus I knew he had no radar in the car.
later

73 in a 50
un-nessasary noise, mainly squeeling tires and failier to produce license.. ok, so the cop wasn't in his car, he was off duity.. i made the mistake of stoping to talk to a few friends on the side of the road.. so he pulls up behind me in his blazer and takes out his badge and ticket book!.. what kind of looser carries his ticket book around when he's not at work?!
114 in a 100 (looser cop.. just cuz i drive a firebird and the 4 door civic passed me, chooses me)
144 in a 100 and running a stop sign... ok, i did a rolling stop.. but the mustang i was racing (well.. sorta) was going WAY faster then i.

Mark305TBI, RB's84camaroF-41, MattW,

I honestly can't tell you why I always get caught at 67. The first ticket I got (1990) after slowing down from 90 or so when I saw a car coming way off in the distance on a backwoods country road. Obviously I was lucky I didn't get caught at a faster speed. The 67 in a 35 was when I was late to work and I was just stupid and got what I deserved (well, I mean I never got a ticket for being right so I always got what I deserved). 67 in a 55 in 1991 was with the T-Tops off in my '91 Camaro RS V8, the music loud and in the night just enjoying life on Route 17 before Tappahannock. Suddenly lights came on from a cop, and life sucked. Then on the return trip home two days later on 270 in Maryland I get nailed again by a Maryland State Trooper. Finally the 67 in 55 was again on the famous Route 17 before Tappahanock in my '97 SS where I DID have the cruise control set on 65 but it coasted up going down hill.

Why I was always clocked at 67 instead of 66 or 68 or whatever is beyond me, but I hate 67 mph with a passion. The Formula is the only car I have never gotten any ticket in, which of course I will now and then I can add another 67 in a xx in this thread.

i suggest cuttin that down to 64 in the 55s, 12 over looks a lot worse than just 9. double digits or something!!

I got caught twice doing power slides in my mom's 2000 blazer. one was sooo obvious, but i told the cop i wasn't used to SUVs and that it "got away from me" Lucky he didn't see my racing license behind my driver's license!

The other was just dumb, i was spinning the tires in my friend's neighborhood (again in the blazer) and the cop was just right there. I pulled into a parking lot before he turned on his lights and said to my friend "abandon ship" and got out and started walking. The cop pulled up to me and said, "where ya goin?" "Uh, i was just goin to my friend's place to see if he's home" I just lied right to him, it was really dumb. anyway, he just wrote me a $90 excessive noise ticket.

none...

But since some things are illegal that shouldn't be, like spinning tires, I'm not going to brag. I have been stalked by plenty of "masks" though. That's is unmarked cops. Usually they encounter me on roads that I know well and I ease out of sight (around a curve or over a hill) and then hide or lose them. Sometimes I just play nice until they go away. Really, tho, they enjoy the hiding part of their job and they don't want to be exposed or found out, so they're pretty nervous themselves. But hey, I'm a safe driver. I don't look at a drivers' handbook like a Bible, but I'm safe.
I did get stopped once, in my old Zephyr, for, get this, 36 in a 20.

The first 4 months that I had my license, I got pulled over 4 time - but no tickets (stupid young driver got caught easily). Later, I got

-57 in a 35
-47 in a 35
-63 in a 35 (thought it was a 45, doh)
-81 in a 64 (tough to push a 4cyl S10 that fast)
-87 in a 65 (no ticket)
-105 in a 55 (no ticket - cop didn't have radar and told me that I was going "about 85" but he'd let me off this time)
-132 in a 55 (no ticket - "I pulled out in front of that guy and my throttle stuck open, officer")
-disobeying a traffic control device
-illegal squealing/screeching of tires
-drag racing (got court supervision and paid the $500 fine, but didn't lose the license - good because I wasnt drag racing, just revving my engine in neutral next to the guy while moving)
-no seatbelt (written warning)
-improper lane usage (the front wheel on the scooter locked up, threw me off, and then hit a parked car. Kinda unfair, since it left the lane after I'd dismounted)

Thanks to our wonderful judicial system, though, I've only got one ticket on my record (though I've been convicted on maybe 6 or 7), and that goes away in about 1 month. Sleazy lawyers are cool when they're on your side. It's all good, though, 'cause there aren't any accidents in there - just violations of arbitrary speed limits and other non-safety-related laws.

The law is strange...

The drivers' book says to keep both hands on the wheel, but retards can talk on phones and drive, and with manuals, you have to switch gears.
The law says to wear your seatbelt, which I do, yet you can ride a motorcycle.
I think the law is against wearing headphones, yet, once again you can talk on cell phones.
Jackasses that criticize about racing usually drive 75 everywhere. Nothing wrong with excessive speed and reckless driving, but racing is evil.
And again, it's against the law to spin your tires in daytime with no one complaining....yet...yet...you can still TALK ON A DAMN CELL PHONE. Causing recks left and right. Hey someone's in front of you turning off, just whip around them and let someone behind you rear end them. Go on about your busy, ritzy life. You have places to go. You're important. If you have to, use the shoulder or someone's driveway. Kill as many pedestrians as you can, or that guy trying to drive down his own driveway. Losers.
And this, friends, is why I don't criticize many of you. I have other peeves.

My only ticket i got about 10 months ago,

Loss of control of vehicle, or something like that.

The worst part was, there was no cop, i hit a golf course fence and one of the employees got my plate even though he told me he would not bother if I left right away (which I did). If I'd been smart I would have just left right away (not gotten out to look at the damage), then they would be looking for a white neon (gee, never seen one of those before...). At least there were no points.

Yep, me and about 90-100 others at the illegals. 12 or so cop cars, 1 Helicopter, and undercover officer hiding in the bushes.
Cops blocked us in and kept us there for 4 hrs. writing tickets. Funny thing was my lawyer tore the cops up, all these cops, many races going off, not one ticket was writin' for drag racing.
Can't aid and abet if there wasn't a speed contest. Duh !! Made the Sgt. in my mock trial look like an idiot.

It depends on your insurance company and on the state, AFAIK. We don't have a "points" system in IL, it's just "get 3 moving violations in a 1-year period and lose the license." The IL Sec. of State keeps a record of all traffic infractions (including written warnings) on record for 5 years, and that's what my insurance company goes by - 5 years. I know that at least one other company only looks back 3 years for traffic violations. Depending on the county, if you get court supervision or traffic school, then the ticket doesn't get turned in to the seceratary of state, and theus your insurance has no way to find out about it (unless they go to every county you've driven through and ask them).

I just got my first one a few weeks ago. The freaky part is it just happen to be when I'm driving my friends Honda, and i had forgotten to put my radar detector in his car. Thing with radar detectors that I've discovered from expirence is the cheap ones dont do S***, and the more you pay the better they work. I have a 300 Belltronics, works great! But of course you have to use them wisely because they only warn if the Pigs detector is on.

Tickets are no fun. I have 36 points on my liscense, 24 are still current. It has been a living hell. I had to file SR-22 insurance to get my liscense back recently. SR-22 is like ultra high risk. Full coverage on my 89 rs with me 20yr/male and my record was $2300 a year. and that was the cheap place. I managed to get my chevelle insured for state minimum/liability for $1500 a year. needless to say i'll be running a monster tach and speedo

Speed kills, so try to take it easy. I've had more than I'd like to mention, including loud noise violations, and reckless driving. The best advice I give a person is to SLOW down and enjoy life. Speed isn't everything. It took me years to learn this, and it was a lesson well learned.
