Hood insulation - Keep in/or take out??
I was just looking for some opinions on the above subject. My Z still has the insulation & I if I was to remove it, I believe it would have a better disapation of heat, but are there any negative side effects of doing this??

I don't have the insulation under the hood, and I can tell you that the engine noise is much more noticeable. They say that if you have headers, that the excessive heat could blister the paint on the hood itself. I just put headers on last fall, so I couldn't tell you if that is true or not. So far, so good.

one person pointed out a while ago that the real reason behind the insulation was incase your engine caught on fire, the insulation would fall over-top the engine and put out the fire...

If it is still in great condition , I would leave it. If it is ratty and torn..yank it out. It weighs next to nothing so it really isn't a weight saver, and it is to protect the hood form heat. But it most likely will do no harm without it....

I yanked mine a couple of years ago because it was ratty and torn, I have noticed the hood is hotter after running it but have not had any problems with it. I also just put headers in the late summer and haven't seen the paint blister but i haven't run it too hot either.

Yeah - by the time the plastic clips holding the insulation got hot enough to melt so it could drop the car would be long gone.
I remove that insulation from any vehicle that I want to keep for a long time so that I can see if there's corrosion developing under the hood.
I have headers also and have had no problems with the paint.
