Sale prices/Value of a 3rd Gen?

I'm curious about how thirdgens are doing in the resale market.

By this I mean a good, solid car, good paint, mechanically and cosmetically sound?

I know anyone with such a vehicle thinks/would like to get $10k for such a car, but what have/has anyone actually sold thirdgens in this sort of ballpark for in the last couple of years? I'm trying to judge what an A-1 car is really worth/really selling for in todays market.

As an example, 2nd Gen f-bodies have gone through the roof the last couple of years and even what was considered a $300.00 rusted partsbox a few years ago will fetch $1000.00- how have thirdgens been fairing?

Any personal examples or patterns people have noticed would be appreciated.

When I bought my car back in 1989 I only paid $7500.00 the car was in mint condition with a new paint job (Red) and it only had 60,000 km's, so I got a really good deal on it for a 4 year old car.
Now the car is appraised for $30,000.00 and that was 2 years ago, this year I will have to get it re-appraised and I believe that the value will surely go up due to the extra stuff that I put in since the last appraisal.
Hopes this helps you a little bit!

Yeah, but appraisal value and selling price are like oil and water. Nobody will pay $30000 for an Iroc. My last appraisal was for 22500 and id be lucky to see $10 maybe $12G for it.

True Cruz'N Bruz'R, I don't expect anyone to pay $30,000.00 for an IROC and I don't plan on selling it! No matter how much money you put into a Car...you will never get 100% back.

Sorry to cut in here, but does any one have an idea what I should list my car for? It is a black 91Z with fresh paint. Paint was done properly(doors came off as well as bumpers and body kit). The engine is a 5K old 355 forged bottom end with afrs and a super ram, comp pro mag rockers and springs as well as teh LPE 219 cam. 17" ROH wheels drilled rotors and earls braided brake lines. Hotchkis springs, LCA's and relocation brackets, Spohn adj panhard bar, and new KYB's front and back as well as Edel. strut brace. Trans was just rebiult with TCI rebuild kit and trango shift kit, also a TCI 2500 stall. Black interior as well. Umm B&M mega shifter, autometer pillar gauges. I'm sure I am am missing a bunch of stuff. I have $28 000 in invoices. Ohh and the body has 160k. Even the emblems and windshield are new from when I did the paint.(base clear, wetsanded and buffed, looks like glass). The exuast is edelbrock headers and flowmaster dual cat Y(no cats) with 3" hooker cat back and forth gen tips. The car sounds like a thunder storm. You guys will probably have no clue, but I am just looking for an idea. I guess I would really have to find someone who really wants a car like this. I don't even want to sell it, but I really want a house at the same time!!

Unfortunately it seems that the more "mods" done to a car the less desirable it becomes to a large segment of car buyers. A good condition unmolested example always seems to commaand more money than a modded car. My advice would be to take all the aftermarket stuff off and then sell it, then sell the aftermarket stuff separately.

Car: 87 IROC
I think it would be in reason to expect to pay around $6-7k for a nice (ie clean rust free) car. I picked up my GTA in that range last summer and it is in great shape. Another guy I know in Brantford picked up a very nice 87 IROC for the same price, and it is very clean as well.

Not necerally true. Good mods like stiffining up the undercarage or reasonable go fast mods are ok.

Some reasons I wouldn't buy a car:
K&N air filter.
Greasy running like crap engine.
Slipping tranny.
Rusty floor boards.
General neglect of regular maint.

You will spend 8 to 10 k on a clean fbody now and that is someone who is taking a loss on what they spent.

I bought my first f-body in 87' paid $7,500 for it. I bought my 85 around 92-93. That cost me $4,500 Bought my 98 in 98 and it was $36,500 was my final beat down price with the salesman. He took it. I don't know anyone else that got that good of a deal.

Generally, what any of us would get, in the grand scheme of things, is very little. I mean, in this day and age, $10, 000 is alot of money, but it also isn't. Most of us would terribly regret selling our cars down the road. And the reality is what we would have gotten, even in an extreme case, say $15,000 for a mint "3RD GEN", you would never get more, would seem like peanuts for the joy of having owned your baby all the years. It's nice to get ahead in life, but we all have to have things to keep us sane. Our cars are one of our hobbies, and once paid for, the cost of yearly insurance (remember, it's off the road 6 months of the year) is a small price to pay to have something that keeps us happy.
Jsut don't put any more money into the car, and keep it for life, and save for a house. You have your whole life to pay for your house. Do you want to give up something you love for even $15?
Remember, you can't buy a new Sunfire (a piece of sh*t compared to the enjoyment most of us get from our cars) without shelling out almost $20 large. More if you had to get a bank loan. For what our cars are, or what we have made them into, it just isn't worht the cash we would get. You pay a fortune to go see a movie in the theater today, for 2 hours of what is supposed to be enjoyment. You get enjoyment all the time with your car/hobby, and done properly, don't spend all your money.
Keep your car this summer, don't put a cent into it, and see how much cash you have by winter. Tell me then if the amount of cash you'dd get for your car will change the rest of your life, or be little enough to pay for your regrets later in life. Sorry for going on.

Yeah Paul, well you just get that thing running, then we'll see. Better yet,WE ALL GET OUR TOYS RUNNING!!!!!
Once you get to get out this summer in it Paul, you'll get bit by the bug again. I lost interest in mine for about 2 years, but the last 2 I've been more into my car than ever. You'll go through phases, but it'll always come back. You don't want to regret it later. Too many times you see guys get back into the hobby later after they sold their car and they get stuck with half the car they once had.
