On his way back he stopped off at Dale Earnhardt Incorp. and was nice enough to buy me this little gem.

I think the few cars that were actually prepped for that series every year are probably the only really significant thirdgens but you never hear about them. The SLP Firehawks are rare but they were never raced so it's not quite the same thing.

The cars themselves, as in the chassis'? Most got rebodied as Dodge Daytonas in '91. The IROC series is run on a pretty tight budget and they're slow to update their technology. I think DEI and RCR each have one or two of Mr. Earnhardt's IROC cars.
They currently run a '98-'02 T/A silhouette car that doesn't say Trans Am or Pontiac on it anywhere.

Interesting though, I didn't know all that about the IROC series, I thought the cars might have been sold off but it makes sense just to rebody them and send them back out.
