Need to try to bypass my KS without setting a code so I can check a minor drivability problem..........I know I can unplug it but will that set a code? I assume so..........but I'm ignorant so help me please. Or even how to 'desensitize' it?
Thought I remember reading that you needed to use some kind of resistor..........thanks.
measure knock sensor resistance and replace it with right resistor. in other words ground the resistor and connect knock sensor wire to it. some people said it's 3.9kOhm, but i think it's better to measure the value.
90-92 speed density ECMs all use 3.9k ohm
As for the MAF, i can't say for sure. Some are definitely 100k. I don't know if all are. Easy enough to be sure by measuring on MAF. Or you can buy apack of both for under $1 and try both. Start with the 100k, it will set a check engine light pretty quick if it's wrong, and it won't hurt anything.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die
As for desensitizing, you can put a resistor network around the sensor to effectively 'quiet' it. Post back if you want to try this and i'll figure out the values you'd need.

Ed, I have Speed Density. Sorry to ask this, but can you walk me through this? Am I buying these at Radio Shack? How exactly do I incorporate the resistor?
You can either hook it up at the sensor connector, or splice in at the ecm to make it cleaner and more permanent. You just hook up a 3.9k ohm resistor in place of the knock sensor. Just connect the resitor to the wire on one end, and ground on the other.

oh crap. all this time i was like "ok found a 350 knock sensor" for my TPI swap, 165 ECM. now im wondering if its the right one!
oh sheesh. can i change the knock sensor "type" in the chip to accept any knock sensor? i dont want to hook this thing up then be chasing codes around left and right.
