speedometer gears and computer function

I just changed rearend gear ratio. Does the speedometers gears need to be correct for the computer to function properly? I have an aftermarket digital speedometer so I can correct it for the proper speed but wasn't sure about the effect on the computer.
Thank You

The only thing that is usually affected is the ACTUAL speed at which the torque converter locks up, if you have an automatic transmission.

You mention an aftermarket digital speedometer. I dont know how well it integrates with the ECM, but if you can correct your speed with this product, then it shouldnt be a big issue.

Either way, I dont think it is that big of a deal. If you do find it locking to early (or late, usually it's too early), change the speedo gears.
