putting TPI into a 305 with carb
i bought an 86 IROC-Z with TPI...i want to put the TPI onto my 305 engine on my 86 Z28 instead of the carb that i have there now...does anyone know where i can find out what exactly i have to take from the IROC TPI system...i just want to make sure i get everything because i'm sending the body to the junkyard when i'm through with it...i don't really know too much about the whole process of switching to TPI so if anyone can help i'd appreciate it...thanks

You'll need the ECM (under the dash, passenger side) the entire harness with every last connector (dont cut ANYTHING) Every last sensor, and everything from the intake up.
You might want to take the throttle cable/TV cable (for the tranny) as well.
There's sensors in the block (knock sensor) and one in the exhaust (02 sensor) you might want to snag the heads/pullys etc
That should be the major concerns

You're also going to need all the fuel lines from the tank to the TPI and back to the tank (keep the line hold-down clamps too), the fuel tank float/sender/fuel pump assembly, the bracket for the fuel filter and the complete wire harness for the electric fuel pump.
Obviously, the air cleaner assembly and the related stuff that goes with it.
And a big can of ambition... I say that because I'm just a short time away from swapping it into my '84.

Car: 87 Monte Carlo SS
Engine: 89 IROC 350 TPI
Transmission: 700R4 rebuilt w/TCI kit
Axle/Gears: 9" from 57 ranchero unsure gears.
from converting my Monte to a TPI system, a really good wiring schematic is almost a necessity, esp if you can get a good one like I did out of a GM service manual, if your lucky like I was I knew a guy who worked for a local dealership at the time and he snagged the book for me, since all the wiring colors matched it made things a lot easier in the long run, but since your sticking with another F-body you may not have as many changes as I did

Sending an IROC body to a Junkyard??? I..I...I don't understand. IROCs rule, why would you send an IROC to the yard Well, more power to you (makes my 1990 IROC-Z that much more rare) Good choice in the TPI over carb though

There is a stand alone harness that's made for what you want to do. I have one that was in a 83 firebird that originally had a 4 banger in it and I converted it to a 88 5.7 tpi setup. Not that hard to do.
