L98 Aluminum Corvette heads or the Eldebrock Torquer heads?

Which of these heads do you think would be the better route for my 305 TPI?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I never heard of Edelbrock torquer HEADS, I have heard of the Edelbrock torquer INTAKE, as well as the World products S/R torquer heads.

The Edelbrock 6085 heads have 2.02/1.60 valves that may not clear the bore of a 305. In fact, most big valve heads have problems when it comes to clearing the bore of a 305. Some 2.020 heads can with notching the bore and limiting lift. Others just won't work at all.

Lastly, the aluminum L98 heads have 58cc combustion chambers like the stock iron heads. They are EASILY ported to flow nicely. The Edelbrock have small intake ports (165cc IIRC), thus they will need porting too, which doesn't make them quite a bargain anymore.

I say, get the aluminum L98 heads, have them ported and you'll have a nice set of heads for a 305. You might be able to squeeze slightly smaller valves like 2.00/1.55s but frankly, for all the cost I would just use the 1.94/1.50s and go for a good porting job.

Also, make sure you cleanup the combustion chamber and semi-polish them (you can do this yourself). It will go a long way in reduce detonation and running higher spark advance (which is the key to power).

I agree with Glenn. Also, find out what gasket matching is and do that to. It will help with the engines VE a little.

It's when you put the intake gasket on the heads and then the intake and trace out the area inside. Once you have it traced carefully use a die grinder to remove the unwanted material. This will eliminate any seams or steps in the intake runner when the AF passes from the intake to the heads.
