Miniram help

I have a miniram intake in my 92 camaro that has the serpentine belt setup. I went to install the belt and its rubbing the upper radiator hose very bad. I took the upper hose off the t-stat housing and the belt is coming almost halfway up the opening so how am I supposed to make this work. Pictures would be great if you have some.

One more thing what did you guys do with the MAT sensor that used to plug into the back of the plenum?

Thanks

Somebody has to be running the miniram with the serpentine setup. I am using that low profile t-stat housing for the miniram and I just don't see how you can install the upper radiator hose with the belt running right in front of the opening.

Please help

Are you using the thermostat housing that came with the miniram?Because it points the diagnally up with plenty of clearance for the for the belt..You should also have a hose bracket right there that will keep your hose off the serpentine belt..If i had to guess id say you dont have the correct thermo housing..The MAT gets moved up to your air intake hose..TPIS sends you a wire extentending harness for the MAT to do this with when you purchase a Miniram..if you dont have these parts call them..you can get them seperatley..Good lucK!!

Hey thanks a lot for the reply. I guess I have the wrong housing, but it sure looks like it was modified, there are welds all around where the neck meets the housing. I bought the setup used so its certainly possible I have the wrong one. Do you think it would be possible to post me a close up picture of your housing?

Thanks
Dave

I'm putting one on my 88 bird also. You should use the water neck they supplied. I do have one issue, the front of the intake only has holes drilled for the CTS and the heater nipple. What the hell is the 3rd sensor in the front of the stock intake (can't find it in my chiltons) and where do I put it? Has PPL/Wht and Tan wires connected. Also the LPE 58MM TB off my superram wouldn't freaking work cause it's too thick. Now I gotta order another TB

Im pretty sure that sensor is for the fan switch, later models have it in the passenger side head.

I bought my miniram used and I was using the t-stat housing that came with it. It looks exactly like the TPI ones except they made the back side more narrow to clear the throttle body. I am also using the LPE 58mm TB and the thing is huge, so when I tried to put on a TBI t-stat housing it wouldn't fit.

If somebody could post me a picture of what the miniram t-stat housing looks like I would so appreciate it, this way I can see if I do indeed have the wrong one. All this work to get screwed by a housing and belt, it never ends...

Thanks, The CS is gone anyway and I'm switching to an modified ARAP chip so I should be able to do without it. It didn't set a code when I ran it yesterday anyway. I'll look at my chiltons again tonight to make sure

Im no minram guru..so hopefully some other members will chime in..but im not sure why you fellas are having problems making that TB fit..i have a 58 mm BBK on mine..You do have to grind on the bottom of the TB water housing to make it clear...Sorry i dont have a picture to show you..David..what year car did that miniram come off of?

I have one on my 1971 w/ FI ZZ4. TPIS gives you a modified TPI water outlet. I don't have any problems. They also give you an extension harness for the MAT so you can relocate it into your air ducting (recommended). I'll try to post a pic of the t-stat housing when I get home tonight. If you look at the engine pic in my signature, you can see the high angle that the housing points. It clears my 1991 serpentine setup with no problems.

Ok guys, I just got off the phone with TPIS and he is telling me that since my housing has welding marks all the way around where the base meets the neck of the housing I should have the right one. The problem is mine comes straight out, like horozontally, all the ones I am see have some sort of positive angle to it like it should to clear the belt. I asked the guy from TPIS to also send me a pic just to make sure. I also am not completly sure what year car this miniram came from, maybe he was using v-belts and didn't have a problem, but no way no how mine will work the way it is. As far as the TB goes, you have to see the size of this LPE one its huge. He did gring off those coolant fittings though on the bottom I guess to help with clearance.

I may end up having to bring it to a radiator shop have it cut than rewelded with an angle to it. Man I must have the worst luck when it comes to installing aftermarket parts.

The LPE TB is about 1/2" thicker than the BBK/TPIS/Stock..... It'll go against the intake but you cannot get the bottom bolt in around the water neck. You'd have to see it in person to see what I mean. Really ticks me off too cause I have to use my stock TB till I get a different one

Just another reason why tpis sucks ***. You can use the LPE/Accel throttle body, but you have to grind down the coolant port thing on the bottom of the tb and I had to have the water neck cut and re-welded to fit. I have a NOS throttle body plate which made it even worse, but it will fit.

A friend also has a miniram and the bbk tb and he had to get his re-welded also.

TPIS will tell you to get it cut and welded also, so they know about the problem, but won't do anything about it.

I just deleted the throttle body coolant function altogether. So when I had to cut the lower hose nipple, it was no biggie. The MiniRam is a great piece though- no complaints on performance from me.

I had TPIS send me a picture of the water neck for the f body and it certainly is different than what I have. Mine comes straight out from the base and the one they sent me has almost a 40 degree angle to it so it will clear over the top of the belt. Unfortunatly I may not be able to use the LPE throttle body with this neck but oh well, I just need to get this car going so the stock TB will have to do for the time being.

Temp switch for 9th injector. Use a 1989 .bin and you'll be cool
