Re: 1994-98 mustang transmission crossmember exhaust project

This is where im at now both sides will get boxed in twice inside original subframe. The rear will get plated and welded to floor. The driver side will be continuously welded to floor pan.The passenger side gap will get a half moon of sheet metal to match floor contour on both sides of tube.I will copy the mustang mount. This not for everyone but I cannot stand the sound of a crossflow muffler.I also dont want dual exhaust run under the factory transmission mount with little ground clearance.

Re: 1994-98 mustang transmission crossmember exhaust project

This will be long tube headers to H pipe hung of off of factory transmission exhaust hanger. It will be 2.5 inch dual exhaust flowmasters under rear seats.I will raise the floor pan under the rear seat for more clearance. It can be done and still have the seat bottoms look normal. From there up and over axle the drivers pipe will go to passenger side then over axle. The drivers side exhaust will exit passenger side. The passenger side will be routed to drivers side for exit.

Success crossmember holding the weight ! Now Ill trim down the mounts and shape them like the crossmember and cap them. The headers can come out now and I will weld the ball and socket exhaust ends on.The passenger side will get turned away from transmission.Still got some welding to finish in this area then to the rear seat pans.

Re: 1994-98 mustang transmission crossmember exhaust project

New headers came and did a test fit before finalizing this section. The old headers on passenger side it faced right into the transmission pan and angle was terrible. The new headers are perfect and the UMI kmember was worth it, plenty of room. The Hpipe will go right at end of transmission and Ill continue rearward

Re: Formula 350 custom dual exhaust with different style crossmember

Floor patches done and bedlined

Test fit and seeing how it looks,im going to take it back apart push the Hipe farther back and move pipes up into transmission tunnel more

The rear is supper simple waiting on a 25° bend to come in with couple extra 90° bends

Great fab work installing the crossmember and routing the exhaust pipes. Have you set the car on the ground to verify clearance for the pipe that runs overtop of the rear diff? Are you going to aDs any hangers on the pipes between the H-pipe and tailpipes - just to limit things moving around?

I kept the rear springs out and used a floor jack to raise the diff to its highest point of travel for driving for my pipe position. The crossover pipe is in the little area between fuel tank and rear seat rest. The hangers ill do last one pair at mufflers and one pair at tailpipe ends.

Nice! Please post some pics of the modified rear seat pans. Would like to see how you did that. How much did you have to raise them?

That rear tailpipe arrangement is quite clever. It packages well and also keeps the pipe length after the mufflers similar. Is that 2.5" pipe?

Re: Formula 350 custom dual exhaust with different style crossmember

Relocated fuel pump harness up to clear the exhaust pipe, just made a tape template of original hole and cut

I didn't want to run another line to front of car for evap canister so used a foxbody mustang one.I trimmed the bracket and mounted it behind filler neck

And with factory cover its out of site and protected just need to run a short metal line from tank to it

This is very clever. Way more ground clearance than my single exhaust.

Nice work.

thanks
Looking at it now I would do shorty headers
Dual pipes following the original route to passenger side (Dual 2.5 fit done it before) then where original hanger off transmission is do H-pipe followed by my setup going back.

Why would you make that change? What you have done is packaged very well, and long tube headers tend to offer more power across the band, compared to shorties.

It would be the route I would take if I did this on another formula and didn't want all the extra labor of making new subframes.I really cannot wait to get it running I think its going to sound really good.
