Where is the water temp sensor on my 350 tpi? My Haynes manual says it is somewhere at the front right side of the motor but I cant find it. I am not sure if I even have one.
If it turns out I dont, where should it go? A photo of location would be of even extra help if at all possible .

btw.....the reason I ask this is that my water temp gauge in my dash is not reading anything. It did this with my old engine too and I dont remember seeing it during the recent engine swap.

Not sure on your yr car, but on 90-92 TPI its as follows

Coolant guage
located on the drvr head between cyl 2 and 4

for ecm
located at near front of intake/t-stat area

for fans
located towards rear of block on pass side between cyl 5-7

Thanks guys I found the sensor but now I cant find the plug in that goes onto the sensor. It is disconnected

Is that a metal hose connected to the temp sensor? I am pretty sure I dont have any extra metal parts when I did my engine swap.

Those plastic connectors get brittle and break over the years. If you find that yours is broken and you want to replace it, I have replacements. Please contact me privately at mike@s10wildside.com if interested.

its kind of a wierd connector.


its flat and it looks like its suppost to go on a spade crimp connecter.... it just clips on sideways to the nub on the connector.



i wish i had a pic to show you....... pictures worth 1000 words (and easier on the wrists)

No, that's just the angle of the picture. It is the coolant line for the oil cooler. It's about a foot lower ( I think).

The connector you're looking for is like the one in the picture on the table. Possibly, the plastic will have gotten brittle and broke off just leaving you a connector. The connector will look like a "C" but with square edges, when viewd from the end.

Thanks for all the help guys I found the connector and yes the plastic was all to crap so I broke it off. The connecter look good though

Ive come across another prob though.... My temp gauge still reads nothing Is there a way to make sure its not my gauge? I dont want to spend $50.00 on a new sensor if I dont have to.

If the wire is broken somewhere, it's probably broken under the hood. I'd check for continuity on that green wire from the firewall to the terminal that connects to the sensor.

If you buy a new sensor from GM, don't be surprised if it looks different. The replacement is a blade style instead of the button style you currently have. Your terminal will still work with the new style sensor.
