TPIS Intake Base Owners.. Some Help Please!

TPIS Intake Base Owners.. Some Help Please!
Okay so I bought a TPIS Intake base... I got it yesterday and looked it over, it looks quite nice, but I have 2 questions...
I read in the paperwork I have to plug a hole near the distributor hold down for my application... what goes here in other applications? What size plug do I use to plug it?
On the drivers side, above and to the rear of where the front set of runners attach there is a hole, it has a passage that runs straight through to the EGR tube/Cold Start Passage... I am guessing I need to plug this, since it would just be a vacuum leak if left open, right? I don't have a clue what would go there, does anyone know? Here's a picture to show what I am talking about... the circle is where the hole is, the line shows where the passage runs... Now the hole looks like it was partially tapped with threads, what plug would I use here?

I think i can answer the first question... The hole right next to the distributor is for the EGR setup on corvettes with aluminum heads. TPIS sells a billet aluminum block off plate for it for 12 bucks (If i remember right). Here is an old picture of my super ram base to show you where it is...not the best angle, but it works...

Well you're right on that one... but I was actually talking about a different hole back there, it goes into the coolant passage. It looks like a bolt hole that is about 2 inches at the most from the distributor hold down. Maybe I should take a picture of my intake from above.

Did your intake have the other one on the other side? What did you do with it?

i know the hole your talking about. I coolent shooting from in when i installed my intake. I just pluged it with a bolt and teflon tape.

If it is to the front of the distributor at about the 5 O'clock position, that should be the hole for the Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor.

You are right 92GTA, It has been an interesting night and I was still laughing about the guy who came into the store tonight with his $207.00 license plate bulb. It was burned out and that was the amount the cop charged him on the ticket. I am also trying to hitch a ride with the Captain & his jolly crew.
It is hard to tell from the picture but that hole he has circled appears to be on the side of the manifold. If that is correct, then that hole is for the barb nipple fitting for the PCV valve hose that was mentioned earlier.

The one you're really interested in is the EGR Temp switch sensor, if you aren't using the EGR then just plug it.

My EGR temp switch sensor plugs into the base of my EGR.
I haven't seen any of these manifolds that havn't had that passage plugged. Plug it or email TPIS and just ask them.

Ahhh... okay... PCV hose goes there... duh.... I'm dumb
Okay I got it all now.
Plug the rear hole to the coolant passage, then the other one is for the PCV...
The third one in the back is for external EGR, which will be plugged for me!

Wha? The thing tells the computer if the temp goes up, thus telling the computer that the EGR opened. How the hell would it work stuck in a coolant passage?!?

The EGR valve will not open until other parameters such as rpm (=>2000) are met. The piston chambers temperatures actual drop by serveral hundred degrees when the EGR valve opens reducing NOx, knock, pinging, and increasing fuel economy during light loads, but the ECM shuts the EGR valve off when in WOT.

I think you have the CTS and the EGR temp switch confused there buddy.
The EGR temp switch detects the increase in heat when the valve opens (as there is no exhaust gas in the body of the EGR yet) telling the computer that the EGR has indeed opened. It has nothing to do whatsoever with the coolant, that is a CTS.

The EGR temp switch is actually on the stove pipe from the exhaust header to the back of the intake.

Nice. RG, I love seeing those set ups. Have some more pics of the area? Is it right off the header tube or is it an insert setup? Where did you get the wrap from, Ecklers or did you make your own?

What area(s) are you interested in? Here' a picture of the engine bay(the flash causes the white to wash out and black on black makes it difficult to distinquish what's what.) I'm working on a website should have it up by Monday. Sometimes I think I work more on this than on the car.

The Fastburn Head is tapped for both Traditional syle bolt pattern and Vortec style bolt pattern.
The Miniram III has a 'raised runner' type port to match the Fastburn head, and bolts up to the Fastburn head BC the Fastburn head is tapped for both bolt patterns, and the Miniram III is drilled as a traditional style bolt pattern.
Out of the box the Miniram III WILL NOT bolt up to Vortec or E-Tec heads. The Miniram III would need to be custom drilled to bolt up or the heads would need to be tapped for the Vortec style bolt pattern. A headache in both cases, which makes the RamJet appear to be a far more atractive option, or Vortec-HSR.
And that is the low down, leave it up to those clown over at TPIS to 'falsely' advertise a product, and purposefully leave info out.
