lower manifold question,help

Car: 87 IROC Z
Engine: 5.7 L98 TPI
Transmission: 700r4,2500 stall
Axle/Gears: G80,10 bolt 3.42's
lower manifold question,help
Just got my new engine in my car,still needs tuneing and a final go through.Started it to hear it run but still needs all the vacume lines hooked up and such.Anyway started breaking down the old 305 and took the intake off(used diffeerent one on new engine)There is a "V" shaped piece that bolts to the bottom of the manifold.I think it is like a heat shield or something.Well the powder coated manifold I bought did not have it.I have never removed it before so i didnt realize it was supposed to be there.Im trying to figure out if its going to cause me any problems down the road,or is it going to make my car run hotter or heat up my manifold to hot causing the manifold air temp up and make my car run like crap.Im trying to keep from haveing to brake my intake all the way back down.any ideas.Thanks

Clean it up, and install it. It will help keep the heat off some. The dry flow of the TPI intake heats up, as it gets no fuel to help cool the charge. Just be sure to use Loctite on the bolts, so they stay put.

Sorry, I mis understood your post. If I had to rip the base off to install it, I would just leave it off. Get it next time.

thanks.I hoped it wasnt that important.I sure didnt want to re do all that.

If it does raise the temp too much in the intake i would get less dense air,right?meaning less power.If it gets to be a problem would it help to move my manifold air temp sensor.Ive heard you could buy a M.A.T. relocation kit,or are those things just snake oil crap.

Don't bother with the MAT relocation kit if you're still running MAF. The guys who've studied the MAF code say the only thing the MAT signal does is provide a temperature signal for EGR operation. Since your sig says you've already deleted EGR the MAT is functioning as nothing more than a thermometer for plenum temperature.

I have been running without mine for about 3 months now, no problems to speak of. It doesnt seem to lose any power when it warms up, I think it is just to keep oil from splashing up on the intake.
