misfire problem and speedo

Car: 88 trans am, and 06 focus DOHC
Engine: 305 tpi
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 4.56 screaming pave eating :-)
misfire problem and speedo
i have a 88 trans am 305 auto with 700r4
few things
the car has engine light on and misfires meaning dumps fuel into cylinders and blasting it out of the exhaust with 2 loud shotgun blasts very loud
i was wondering if the timing and what else could be the problem???
and speedo does not work because the posi gears in the rear are 4.56 and cant find a inexpensive kit to help the speedo work properly
and ideas on my 2 problems??

only reason im not leaning towards the valve springs being the problem is
the motor does run fine
i think timing is off because of the idle jumps from 1300 to 800 then back up
also only time it misfires that bad is when i drive fast down the road and come to a stop
then it bursts out
