Need help choosing a good low end cam
Well I searched around am Im not finding what Im looking for. Ive got a SD 305 TPI in my car, five speed and a 3.73 rear end(may go down to 3.42). Anyway im looking for a cam that will give me good low end and a lil bit of mid range. Looking for somethin from like 1500ish up to around 3500 rpm. Im no expert tho so what every you guy can recommend for a good cam it would be very helpful. Theres also going to be a little bit of work done to the stock 081 heads.

The peanut cam, lol
I think you should look for something that makes power in the idle-5,000 rpm range for a TPI 305. This will push the peak torque range of the cam up to where the TPI setup resonates and give a big push in mid-range torque. You are dealing with a low geared vehicle with 3.73 gears. You can trade off some low-end torque for some top end HP and everything will still be great.

See im not good at all this cam selection stuff. It makes sence to give up a lil low end cause of the gears. So what would you recommend for something from idle-5k.

The stock LB9 roller cam from 1988 is pretty good in the lows and mids. Smooth idle, etc... Much better than the peanut.
