Wont Idle until warmed up

Any Ideas. I think it could be the vacuum lines. I have heard that the Super Rams runner gasket was bad areound 2003 which is when it was installed and would cause a vacuum leak. Does anyone think this could be the problem? No codes either. Any idea's would help. I am also getting around 9 MPG when I should be around 15-17 in the city. Could this be the vacumn lines? I am also running rich. Anyone have a problem like this? My engine is modded and everything has less than 10,000 miles on it. My specs are in my sig. Any tips are apreciated.

The engine is still surging. All the sensors have been replaced also, so that can be checked off.

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

I am having the same kind of issue with my setup.

So far, I have been told the following solutions...

1) Since switching to headers, they take longer to heat so I need to get a heated O2 sensor. I tried this and it didn't make much of a difference in my setup.

2) I talked to a guy at TPIS yesterday and he said to mark the throttle body position screw's current location and then turn it a full revolution one way or the other. If the car responds better, then you will have to reset the TPS sensor. I'm not sure if this will help or not... I haven't had time to try it yet.

If the motor was stock, I would suggest checking your IAC sensor. However, I assume from your post it was replaced.

Are your Accel 24# injectors new? I would check them with an ohm meter and see if any of them are out of spec. My Accel 24# injectors didn't last long... if you search the forum, you will see numerous posts complaining about them.

If you suspect a vacuum leak, I would definitely check the hoses.

Sorry I don't have a more concrete answer for you, but I hope this helps!

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

Yeah, they are new. I will try that. I heard in the one thread that the super Ram had a bad gasket causing a vacuum leak. I think I will try that. My car runs really good, it is just getting bad gas mileage and it wont idle until it is warmed up for a minute. It also surges though. So I am not sure.

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

It runs great when it is warmed up. I am just really wanting to fix the idle and get better gas mileage. formula_novice, are you also not getting as good gas mileage as you should be getting. Are you also surging.

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

So it is running better in closed loop... I don't think your o2 sensor is taking to long to heat up because open loop doesnt cause a poor idle. Is it throwing any DTC's? Do you have a misfire?

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

No, seems to be running fine. I had a check engine light in december, but it disapeared. Hasn't came back for around 3 months.

My main problem is the gas mileage. It isn't that bad warming it up for a minute, the gas is killing me though. I would like to fix both of them. Mainly the gas mileage though.

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

I haven't had mine on the street long enough yet to tell what kind of gas mileage I'm getting. Although I would guess that, with all the goodies I put on, its probably not that great

My car does surge - especially when cold. I'm still working on fixing that.

I see you had a custom prom burned. Has that prom been adjusted for your 24# injectors?

Re: Wont Idle until warmed up

Well, while fixing an oil leak, I have my headers open and I found out that firecomes out when I start it with just headers no y-pipe. Could the timing be cause all these problems?
