Cap and rotor
If my dist cap and rotor is old or going bad, could that cause my car to misfire when I hit the gas?

Yes, it sure can, it happended to me last week. I went down to my local Chevy dealership and for $35 I got a brand new AC/Delco cap and rotor kit. I installed them and the car runs great now. But beware, misfiring could also be caused by burned or damaged plug wires. So make sure to check things out before you go spending money.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the wires and plugs, cause I just put new ones on not even 500 miles ago. So thats why I think it is the cap and rotor. Is there any other brands besides AC Delco or are they the best brand? Is there a performance one that does anything special?

if you don't have an aftermarket coil yet here is your chance, i got a hypertech 53000 volt coil(hottest for hei), it looks like oem, comes with cap and rotor all for 70 i think

yeah, it looks exactly like the stock coil, it is the hottest they make for external hei, and it is a simple installation, no wiring changes, the distributor cap is better than stock too

Will it work with the same plugs and wires I have? Does it give any performance gains? I have a buddy that put on an aftermarket cap and rotor and it got so hot it would make the plastic soft and sometimes it was like it was melting or something. This cap won't do that will it?

As far as i know it should work ith the same plugs and wires, but i fell if your gona go with the Hypertech cap and coil set up with all that voltage, why not go with better plugs and wires to get the full impact of the coil.I bought a set of Accel 8.8 300+ Race Wires and Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs.I hear the coil helps throttle response and your car wont hesitate as much, and you burn fuel and all the way to red line with no missing and so on.I also hear the set up with bigger gapped and modified plugs can increase your HP 5-10.

The Hypertech cap/coil/rotor Part # HYP-4052 from Summit is a nice setup. It is complimented with some good Accel or MSD wires. You will not be wasting any money stepping up to this setup but if you still have the problems you speak of it is possible your distributor pickup coil is bad.
It is lined with a brittle paper that breaks down easily.

Just upgraded mine from stock with cap & coil combo from Performance Distributors (D.U.I. - Davis Unified Ignition) in Memphis, TN. Cap & coil for $75 and I added an ignition module for another $50. I could really feel the extra power start after where the stock one gives up. Even with MSD 8mm wires and Bosch plugs that are around 2 1/2 years old. Wanted to go a different route other than Accel or Hypertech. I suppose my gamble paid off!!!

From what ive heard, the D.U.I. - Davis Unified Ignition is supposed to be the same as the Hypertech at up,same exact power coil, and same cap and rotor.I almost went with the D.U.I myself, but i figured for the same price, why not get the Hypertech since its a brand ive heard of a lot more.

I just got my Hypertech coil, cap, and rotor set(4052) today. Should i go ahead and gap my plugs up from the stock .035 gap to a .045? My engine is pretty much stock and i'm not looking to go to .050 and clip the electrode way. I heard plugs foul quicker and since its my daily driver i'm not looking to change plugs every week. Thank you for any help.
