Is this normal power?

I got to drive my GTA today and noticed that it is a tire smokin beast in 1st gear and keeps going when it shifts into second and then it feals like it falls on it's face. It's still pulling but not what I expected after what it did in 1st gear. I do have a MAF problem and I get code 32 (EGR) but would these two problems cause the power problem I think I have. This is my second TPI 350 but I only got to drive the last one 500 feet out of the guys drive way before it spun a rod bearing. The power is good, just not what I expected. The MAF sensor is on it's way and I ordered an exhaust and plan to deal with the EGR problems when I have the time. Thank's

Re: Is this normal power?

yeah the first gear is enough to light the tires on anything and then it has a huge drop to second....so u make a crap load of torque and have a shitload of torque multiplication in first then it kinda goes bye bye real quick...thats why tpi thirdgens will jump most anything off the line then the other car will come back...

Re: Is this normal power?

Yeah the low end torque on the 350TPI is pretty crazy...sad it kinda stops by the end of second gear tho!...

I love zippin' out of the hole FAST(LOL...)...so it dosent really bother me.

My 350 will smoke first and second. It finally grabs at 3rd(sometimes) and thats when it shines. 4th is nice. 5th it falls on its face.

Re: Is this normal power?

I ordered a rebuilt maf, AZ, Cardone part number. It would only read to 183 grams a sec then flat lined. So I took it back and got an other one. It also flat lined at 183, that is 4 volts out, not 5. Before I got home, 3 miles, it started to surge. Out it came and back to AZ. This time when they offered my money back, I took it. Then I said "what about the core charge"? I came in the store with a MAF and was leaving empty handed. They then gave me $80.00 for the core that they couldn't return (it was a dead one).

Has many one else had bad luck with a rebuilt MAF or one that read below 255 at the peak air flow.

Re: Is this normal power?

Samdweezel05; have you checked/replaced the fuel filter?

Yeah, there's is a big gear ratio jump going from 1st to second with a 700r4.

pandin; Maybe 183 gr/sec is all your eng flows.
I'm not aware of anyone with a naturally aspirated LTR TPI setups that flows over 255 gr/sec.

Re: Is this normal power?

The fuel filter is going on this sunday. I don't get alot of time to work on my stuff due to work so I have to do it a little at a time. This thing falls flat on it's face almost as soon as it shifts into second. It has an OEM exhaust on it right now and I can hear it hissing with restriction. I will leave the cat in place but put a piece of pipe throught it when my magnaflow gets here. Thank's for the info guy's

It just seemed funny the micro tech MAF flows to 255, and all 3 of the 200 grams/sec Bosch MAF's flow the same on a stock 350.

At 494 cfm Air flow
305 @ 5600 rpm
350 @ 4880 rpm
383 @ 4460 rpm

So you are suggesting that a 383, 24# injector, 50# fuel pressure, 6000 rpm, dual exhaust, no cats, aluminum headed, bigger roller cam, and open mufflers has the same max air flow, as a bone stock iron headed, 22# injector, 5000 rpm 350 (the cars are the same year). Not likely because the 383 maxed out the 22# injectors and the 24#@50# run at 80% DC.
