88 L98 Auto

Hey everyone. I'm in the process of installing a T56 from a 95 camaro and was wondering if I can use the same starter that is on the car now? Thanks

Re: 88 L98 Auto

If I remember right the LT1 uses a high torque mini starter and the nose is smaller and you may run into a clearance problem when bolting trans in with original starter still mounted.

Hello...so I can still use the starter that is on my iroc now with the t56...but I'll have to unbolt it before I put the new trans in? If that's the case then it's no problem unbolting the starter. thanks

Re: 88 L98 Auto

It depends on the starter you have. There are a lot of variations of the starters used on SBC's. I would remove it before bolting up the trans. Once the trans is installed try the starter, it will not fit all the way in where it belongs if the nose is to large. I just went and got a LT1 starter and was done with it.
